I really don't like video squeeze pages...

...and I'll do everything I can to bypass the video to get to the order page,
or to somewhere where I can just read the sales details. And I'll bet many
other potential customers do the same.

Video is such a wasteful way of delivering copy. I hate having to wait for a
slow, measured drawl when I could otherwise scan through a whole page of
copy to see what I want.

I certainly won't be putting forced video players on any of my sales pages,
whatever the gurus reckon.

Does anybody have experience showing that video converts better?

Even so, sales copy converted long before video ever did, and I expect it
will for the foreseeable future.

Please excuse the rant. It's just a case of the straw breaking the camel's back,
as of just now.

Cheers! And best wishes for everybody's success in the New Year!

Next time you rant, please, decide is it about SQUEEZE pages or SALES pages. They are not the same.

Video sales pages have never really bothered me to that extent. Maybe if I view a sales video that looks like it was published 5 years ago or maybe if the video is incapable of presenting the sales material in a professional manner, I would get ticked off.

However, often times, when I want to buy a product, it is because I am looking for a solution to a problem. When I need something, I am willing to sit through a video or a long sales letter.

If you are browsing for new products to buy, whether it be because it was recommended to you from an email list you are subscribed to or maybe you were referred to the sales video from an advertisement on a blog, it makes sense that you get annoyed from the video. You (might) just want something to sell you the product faster. I think I too would get annoyed if I was in that position. I am not saying this is what is happening to you. Just giving you my personal perspective regarding why some people might get annoyed of sales videos they can not skip over.

    Happy Holidays!

Your joking right? More than 2 billion videos watched every day on the net. Put your video, text, audio or what ever else you need to get that call-to-action.

It doesn't matter what you like, it's what the prospective optin person wants that matters. Why would you shun billions of video watchers?

The more prospects you reach with your message delivered in any medium, the more success you'll have.

    Video marketing works.

Totally agree with you there! I was simply stating *my* personal preferences.

      Video marketing definitely works tremendously.

I feel your pain.. I have my flashplayer disabled, so more often than not I just arrive at a blank page lol I'm not going to rant about it (although I really would love to :p) because I think I am probably in the minority on this one. What I will say is that I regularly unsubscribe from lists that send me too many webinar invitations and links to videos and/or video sales pages.

It's a personal choice, but most times I would rather watch/listen to fingernails on a blackboard. It really is that painful (for me anyway) lol

Btw, re video: very occasionally someone gets it right, in a WSO for example, but what sux is when they don't and/or you have to download a 200-300 meg package just to read the pdf lol

I've bought a huge amount of stuff online and am a sucker for a well written sales letter. But video doesn't do it for me and I rarely buy a product that doesn't have an accompanying sales letter.

I often wonder if I'm in the minority, but lately a lot of people seem to be expressing the same sentiment.

I agree that forced videos can be a pain in the rear end from time to time. That's as far as I go with my agreement though. There is nothing wrong with using videos on a squeeze page (or sales page, whatever we are talking about here) as long as it is done well. The same holds true for text copy. For me, it doesn't really matter how the copy is being delivered, just that said copy is good.
    And I'll bet many
other potential customers do the same.
Meh, I'd do research before placing that bet. Too often we like to just assume that our opinion is the same opinion held by everyone else.

Could have been a great opportunity to add a poll to this thread - is it too late already..? After all, although we are marketers, we are also customers.

I think a small video works well, especially if it starts automatically, and the user does not have to start it.

Oh man, I couldn't disagree more.

I can't stand it when videos start automatically (or when there's no indication as to how long they are, or when I can't stop or start them whenever I want).

Videos in general aren't a bad thing - they communicate information in a way that text or audio alone sometimes can't, and a lot of people are visual learners. However, there's a line - and a lot of IMers cross it.

Bottom line: I think they're great as long as the customer is given control over certain elements of their experience and told how much time they're going to have to hand over in order to hear the message being presented to them. It's common courtesy.

There speaks someone who hasn't split-tested autoplay video, I strongly suspect?

Any product with autoplay video is an automatic and immediate rejection for me, when I'm looking for things to promote as an affiliate. I have tried some, in the past, but there are simply so many people who either can't or won't look at those pages that that's just a problem I don't need, when I have so many thousands of other products and sales pages from which to choose.

To the OP: did you actually mean "video squeeze pages", as in the title? (In which case I'm on your side). Or did you mean "video sales pages"? (In which case I'm still inclined toward your side, actually ...).

I hear yah: just noticed this week that I was groaning at another voice screaming at me.

But, like the other warriors, I have to admit: when well done, they are PROVEN to work and that's one good reason for using them. (not necessarily watching them.)

Personally I just go down the page or surf while listening, then go back and access.

Video never bothered me, I guess it's because I have a 24 inch monitor so I can have two browsers open... One for watching the video and the other for working etc

I feel video is more powerful than a super long sales letter - I hate reading the fluff in a sales letter, I like to load up the video and watch, listen and buy...although I too have used James method - multitasking while a video is playing.

I can not stand the 20 minute video with nothing else to learn about the product. I want to hear a few things about what it does and they go through the entire history of IM. I put a video and some main points on every squeeze page. That way the people who want to hear the longer video can do so, and the people who want to just find out the info quick can get to the point (and buy).

The fact of this matter is that video that is to the point and professional works almost better than anything for conversion so regardless of what we personally like we do what the customer likes. One thing a lot don't like is a video with no way of knowing how long it is and no way to fast forward or rewind!

It sounds like everybody here is just giving their opinion and nobody has really split tested whether only video, auto play or whatever works. Some niches it works really well for, some it doesn't. We are internet marketers and we read constantly, we wouldn't be in this business if we didn't.

Most people though sit on a couch, watching tv and to capture their attention you need something to grab it away from the TV...hello auto play video. What I have been noticing is that people are getting annoyed by autoplay only videos bc they were rare, now they are the norm. People are providing new alterations. I have seen the time underneath a few videos, some have the sales page and the video with a delayed add to cart underneath the video, etc.

To tell you the truth though, if you get annoyed by the long video, you probably aren't going to buy, so why should I care about losing 10% of my sales, when the long video will increase my conversions by 25% for the other 90%?

What annoys me is when the video plays automatically.

Same here, I prefer to read however there are exceptions. I saw and watched videos which were properly done with effective effects. (not too much effects)

I agree to Sir Istvan Horvath, squeeze page and sales page are not the same.

Others put videos on their landing pages as well.

    Cheers,

well i think this is depend on your audience. If you are in graphic design industry of course video is the best way to deliver a message. Maybe some people hate video because it is slow needs buffering time.
