Hey guys,

I'm new to this forum, how are you all?

So I have 2 questions for you about ClickBank.

1) Can I mask my affiliate links? (e.g. mywebsite.com/go/product)

2) How much do you guys make with ClickBank?

EDIT: I have a new question guys. Can I request from CB to send me checks with a bank name on it so bank will be able to cash it out?

Thanks for reading,
John

Hi John, welcome to the forum. You can mask ClickBank affiliate links, but you'll need to read carefully ClickBank's explanations of what's allowed and what isn't, and what's "allowed but not a good idea". All About HopLink

I strongly recommend that you don't use any of the "shortening" services available (like tinyurl or bit.ly) - that's almost all downside and risk.

Prettylink, and what you suggest above, are good ways.

Many people won't click on an unmasked hoplink, and although you need to declare openly on your site (for legal and regulatory reasons) that you're an incentivized affiliate, it still makes sense to mask them.

It varies enormously, here ... but I think it's fair to say that fewer than 5% of the affiliates are making more than 95% of the affiliate-money. There's quite a learning-curve involved in it, and many ways to go wrong.

    Thanks for replying guys.

Alexa Smith, so is it allowed to use a link like mywebsite.com/go/product ?

    I won't use bit.ly and such shorteners.

P.S. Waiting for more replies on how much you guys make with CB!

      Yes.

This can be used, and you can re direct to your affiliate ID.

Well, you've asked three times in three posts, so you obviously want to know.

I'm not criticising the question, at all: obviously it's an interesting thing to want to know. And obviously, in a section of the forum which has the subtitle "Where we talk about making money", it's a perfectly legitimate question, too.

The problem is that you (probably) can't really learn what you want to know by asking it. Because those answering will be a very small, self-selected group whose income levels from ClickBank sales may be representative of almost nothing at all. And many of those answering will have sales processes/funnels which are not "pure ClickBank" anyway: many will be using an affiliate website to build a list to which they promote ClickBank products among other things. Another point is that it's of limited value to know what people are earning from it without knowing what they're doing, to earn it, what their learning-curve was like, how long it took, how much trial and error was involved, and several other questions, too. It may be - for example - that you'll get answers only from the successful 5% and none from the 95% who failed. Or even the other way round. Or those figures might be radically different ... but you'll have no way of knowing any of this from the answers.

More than 90% of my income is actually ClickBank-derived (and that's something I'm gradually, slowly working toward changing). It's taken me a little over 3 years to build it up. I have 8 different niche sites from which I build lists and currently promote a total of about 22 different ClickBank products. I had a slow and difficult start, didn't know what I was doing at all, and earned almost nothing for at least 3 months. However, with a lot of persistence and hard work, I now steadily earn a bit more than either my doctor or my lawyer. Helpful to you? (Nooooo, not really! :p ).

          I wish you good luck!

I'm getting what you're trying to say, yeah.

Thanks for taking the time to post here Alexa, I appreciate it.

Check this out: How to Hide Affiliate Links | Affiliate Marketing For Dummies

I prefer using the PHP redirect method myself. You create a couple of folders on your site and insert some PHP code. Like this:

Create a directory off the main site named: 'go'
Create a directory inside 'go', named: your-product-name

Then, create a new file and name it 'index.php'.

Insert this code into index.php and upload it to the 'your-product-name' folder.

    Code:
    <?php header("Location: http://www.YourUglyAffiliateLink"); ?>
Replace 'http://www.YourUglyAffiliateLink' with your actual affiliate link. make sure you leave the 'Location: ' part.

    John,

There is a lot of subjectivity here to deal with because everyone approaches things differently.

I've fooled around with a lot of different things and did well with them but came back to ClickBank because they pay reliably! Believe it or not that isn't the case with some of the CPA networks out there.

I think if you can establish a niche blog/site that gets targeted traffic (between 1,000-2,000 views per month) and are promoting a good ClickBank product with a well written review that lists pros and cons of the product you'll see a few sales come in every month. If you get people onto your list through your blog you can go from a trickle of sales to many sales per month.

While very unscientific - this has been my own experience and the experience of those I've worked with.

Focus on writing well and thoughtfully. Develop a strategy for generating traffic to your site (PPC, List, Organic SEO etc..etc..)and once you feel ready for it signup with Aweber or someone and get a list going in your niche.

Your list will require unique content of it's own so its best to first get the site up and running with content.

And yes, you can "cloak" the affiliate URL. I use GoCodes - I found PrettyLinks was failing on me from time to time which was costing me sales. There are even PLR link cloaking scripts available which you can use and probably some other freebies on SourceForge - Download, Develop and Publish Free Open Source Software.

If you're comfortable with PHP you can do your own (just google it) redirects for each affiliate link. You lose the tracking counts though.

1)You can use a tool like GoTryThis to mask your affiliate link.
    or a tool like adtrackz

2)I am far from a heavyhitter when it comes to clickbank but my
    income is different monthly.

Yes, cloaking links is recommended and pretty easy to do. I also use redirects using the same methods outlined in the link shared in this thread. Works like a charm.

Be careful of some of the plugins that cloak your link by framing... especially if your visitor is not able to break out of the frame. I do think that it screws up tracking or at least there is that possibility. Either way, CB recommends against this so...

As far as how much money can be made; I make more than if I had decided to get a part time job on the weekends and this is a hell of a lot more fun than going back to that security guard crap!

    Thanks for replying guys.

I actually know how to mask links and I would do it with PHP, I just wanted to know if it's allowed to do so.

Hey guys I've actually been doing quite a bit of research on this and found there are some different ways to do this. I was trying to do the php method but I could not figure out how to create the subfolder in my wordpress dashboard.

In the end I ended up installing a wordpress plugin called "affiliate link cloaking"

Here is my question though. Does it matter that (although the affiliate link does not show when you initially mouse over it), once you get to the affiliate link site it still shows the url with your affiliate ID? Won't this still discourage some visitors?

I notice a lot of people are linking to bluehost and some other sites. It seems that bluehost does a fantastic job of changing the url displayed. So even though you got there via an affiliate link, all you see is bluehost.com.

I was thinking that this was done by the affiliate marketer but it seems the companies themselves do that last part.

So, although you can hide the initial thing that the visitor (to your site) sees, it is impossible to hide what they see in the end once they get to your affiliate site, correct?
