Post-Holidays Sales on Amazon

made a good deal of money last month off Amazon from one site ($1500) and i know a great deal of it was a result of holiday shopping. i'm curious what January has in store as with any IM'er, i do not want to go back to scraps just because it's post holiday season.

how much do you expect your Amazon sales to drop next month from this month? is it un-realistic to expect maybe $400 in sales next month when i made $1500 in December?

Do you mind explaining what you did for your Amazon site? I've just started reading up on it and wouldn't mind hearing someone who's had some success describe how they went about doing it.

i purchased Jan Roos' Amazon Affiliate program last December. followed it all to a "T" except i got lazy with the backlinking so i hired an seo guy to do my dirty work.

then naturally i re-looked at my site, tuned it up a bit and changed some stuff.

if you do decide to check out his program, don't listen to him when he says "now that you've created this site, begin work on your 2nd and 3rd and 4th and you'll be making thousands instantly"

worst advice he ever gave me

i did all that and after 10 month i had made a grand total of $54. the breakthrough was when i decided to focus on one site and build that up, get it ranking high and re-write my reviews. made $400 in November and like i said, $1500 this month after not making anything the rest of 2011.

I am working on a review site but I want to make one site that covers one niche, from the testing that I have done I would suggest you do this

    1) When you build your site, try to make it as easy as it gets for users to find the content, make everything look nice, almost all of the Amazon review sites that I see look so bad, people just fill them up with reviews, the user will run away if he/she doesn't find a way to look for a similar product on your site

    2) Once you design your site, go and show it to your friends or family.. I thought I have designed the coolest website! once I showed it to my friends.. they all told me to change the layout because it was filled with colors and so distracting but I thought it was the best since I have designed it.. look at yahoo site, the developers think it is the best site ever but once you go there, u feel like running out because its so disorganized...

    Thanks

What tools do you use to research the keywords? have you ever tried buying a WSO to learn how to find keywords?

My numbers seem to go way up during and around the holidays. With my niche, I get a great Christmas bonus! It does usually go back down in January, however.

without revealing my niche and many other unnecessary details, do you think making $400 in January is un-realistic?

Hard to say without knowing your niche, but I will say that mine usually seems to less than double in the Christmas season.

The 26th is boxing day so alot of the Canadian shoppers go online and they think that Amazon.com has boxing day deals so they buy

haha i actually made no sales Christmas Eve and Christmas Day ( i imagine for obvious reasons, presents have already been bought and folks would rather spend time with family than shop on Amazon )

that being said, i did have 30 clicks yesterday into Amazon so people still were searching just maybe not as ready to rip out the credit card.

I used to do a lot of product sites with Amazon. I would make 10X average on December. I depends on the product, though.

@redstanford - sales will drop off on some sites, however some actually can go up...it all depends on your niche. I can tell you out of experience that my sites around toys usually drop off.

Expect a sharp drop in sales for January since December is the biggest month of the year and you wont be getting anywhere near your decembers earnings since it stand to reason not as many people will be shopping.

I had my best month ever this December hitting well over 5 figures

      Kickin it on Amazon
