Site Flippers, have you tried this?

I like to use themes from professional theme packages and memberships because they look better and the sites are easier to sell.

I thought about rather than selling the theme as part of the website, that I'd tack on an extra 20-50 bucks (Depending on the cost of the theme or membership) and take a commission (they'd sign up using my link). This way, you can have one extra way to make money.

You could tell them that they can buy the multiple site packages if they want to buy more of your sites in the future, which would obviously give you a larger commission.

Has anyone tried this and did it work?

I'm thinking primarily: Thesis, WP-Remix, Revolution2, and elegantthemes

    Hi Nathan,

What I've found to work good on site point are sales pages. People want to setup a business not work for commissions.

Membership sites also sell well. And I really want to jump in now.

What membership site script do you use to build and sell membership sites?

    Thanks.

I have noticed the same trend. Unfortunately, I can create a killer blog in hours and I can't create a sales page (graphically) that even looks to be worth selling. I've tried it, but it just isn't my style.

However, when I'm talking memberships, I mean theme memberships. For instance, at elegantthemes you pay 20 bucks for every template they have and release for a year. Great deal.

    Hi Nathan,

I think you are trying to ask your site buyers to buy the theme through your affiliate link to get the site up completely?

If that's what you mean, obviously no. Firstly, your site wont work as much anymore. If a site with premium theme sells for $100 and the one with free theme sells for $30 -- which types of site do you think you wanna sell?

Consider the affiliate commission to be $30. So that's $30 + $30 = $60 with lots of hassles.

Well first of all, I'd never sell a site for $30, I'd rather keep it for a few months and make the 30 bucks on autopilot.

However, I think you've got the jist of what I'm saying, but I don't think it is an obvious answer. You could say: "the price includes a subscription to so and so themes" and then build in the charge.

You can even mention the fact that they'll get a premium theme as part of the purchase. Who wants a site that looks like everyone elses?

Obviously, I haven't identified the perfect system, but there has got to be a way it can work. I mean if you can charge for hosting and transfer fees, why not offer a theme in the process.

If that's the case, I think I did it once.

I was with a buyer who after purchasing my blog -- are not impressed with the Fresh News (by WooThemes) theme. I recommended the Gazette theme and he was delighted but was reluctant to spend the $70 for single use license. Didn't manage to persuade him to change theme though.
