Amazon Affiliates - How Do You Do It?

For those of you that are earning your income through the Amazon Affiliate program, how are you doing it without making 100's of sites? How do you continue to press forward without getting discouraged by all of the competition?

I keep reading that 1000 exact searches a month is the minimum that most people try target in order for their time to be worthwhile; but no matter what keywords I try to target, there is so much competition.

It's so discouraging.

You don't have to make a bunch of sites to make good money. You can just make one big site, but it needs to be in a hugely profitable niche where there are tons of products to promote. It's also a good idea to promote higher-priced stuff and cross promote products in order to beef up your commissions. For example, if you're in the video game niche, you might want to promote a game system that the game you are promoting can be played on. Lots of people look up video game reviews based on the system they have.

    Good luck,
    Joey

Look harder and seems like you are focusing on products/brand most people are after. Perhaps, you might want to try video marketing for your amazon, can be a lot easier. I see a lot of videos by amazon associates.

I am working on one Authority site, let me tell you it is alot of work but you need to be realistic, first you need to research the market and find alot of keywords to use and then see the competition when it comes to the first 10 sites, bare in mind that if you do the right SEO you will rank for long tail keywords.

Another important thing that I notice everybody is missing here, is the way your site looks, this is my personal opinion : you need to create a well organized website, most people are throwing the review articles on the site and thinking if they get a visitor then he or she will click.. even if you have the greatest reviews it wont work.

I did write a post about this just few mins ago .. check it out http://www.warriorforum.com/main-int...ml#post5311096

You only need to be concerned with the competition on the first page. It doesn't matter how many other sites there are on page 2,3,4,5,6,etc.. promoting the same product, you are trying to outrank them on the 1st page.

Also, you don't need 1,000 exact searches a month for it to be worthwhile.

      I agree with this.

When doing research for my main keywords I only check out the top 3 sites on google because that's where I want to be.

And you don't need 100 sites. One of my sites is currently making about 200 a month from position 5 in google.

I also have another site that recently made a ton of money and required almost no backlinking at all, although it was a 1 off kind of deal where it will no longer continue making as much money.

$200 a month isn't bad for one site but if somebody were looking to quit their job, like me for instance I would still need around 20 sites each making $200 a month just to cover what I earn now, and that's not taking into consideration the time and money spent buying the domain name, putting the sites together, getting them ranked, adding content, trying to maintain rankings plus the fact that obviously every site you build isn't going to be a "winner".

I'm not saying it can't be achieved because obviously it can, I'm just saying it isn't necessarily as easy as what some people would have you believe.

I mentioned that the site in question though, is in position 5. If I manage to gain position 1 for that keyword and work hard on ranking all the secondary keywords and longtails it's not unrealistic to expect somewhere closer to 1k a month from it.

And you're right... It's a lot harder than anyone who is trying to sell you something makes out. The most frustrating part is that all the really hard work has to be done before the profits come in. My sites really only hit their straps in October this year and during November and December I've made a heap of money while doing no work whatsoever.

And a good piece of advice I gained from Wanda & Paula... Try not to think of your business in terms of sites. Instead concentrate on each page. On the site I mentioned 90% of the income is from 2 pages. They're the ones I'll be working hard to improve in both rankings and quality.

For an Amazon affiliate I'd say it's not unrealistic to expect a full time income to be generated from only 5 or 6 pages.

Could anyone explain how you use the "must click" method with youtube videos to use youtube for the amazon affiliate program? I'm pretty new at the youtube thing and not sure about how to do this.

    Discouragement is good

Why? Because it is your opportunity to know how most people, who are trying to make a living online, are feeling most of the time. So, when you get yourself out of that mindset you're way ahead of your potential competitors.

I wouldn't go anywhere near having multiple sites. I suggest you focus on a single authority site. Preferably find a product area that interests you, so that you can write with passion about it and have the desire to research it. Apart from anything else, it is so much easier to control one site, than dozens. It will become far more valuable not only in Google's eyes, but also in the eyes of your visitors.

You can always create smaller product specific sites later on to support your authority site, but don't think about that until you're established.

I'll give you an example of a niche ... coffee ... you can create a site that covers every coffee machine, grinder, cafetiere, cup, spares etc in the 'world' of coffee. You could separate the site into categories for brands, types etc. The possibilities are endless and even if a product is deleted by the manufacturer, it won't matter, because you are cnstantly introducing new models and the number of pages on your site is increasing.

You don't have to just stick with Amazon either, you can sell physical products with SkimLinks or VigLink, which I'm going to try in the next week or two.

Get past the feeling of despair and you can be hugely successful

Hmm, just curious, but what tool(s) are you using to do your keyword research?

Mostly Micro Niche Finder and Market Samurai. I do use SEMrush (free) etc. on occasion. I only look at the top ten results in the SERP's.

I was mostly just feeling really depressed this afternoon when I published this thread. The hardest part is just not knowing for sure if something will work or not.

I was looking at joining a coaching program for Amazon...maybe I should go ahead and do that. If anything, maybe it will help to motivate me and just give me some assurance that this is all possible. I'm really in a bad spot right now, and I'm just having a tough time dealing with it sometimes. No worries, though...I know things will pan out.

Focus on ways to get traffic to your site(s). Think about your niche, find blogs or forums in that niche, and guest blog or make posts that link back to your site. Provide valuable information so people want to check out your site.

In the examples above about coffee and video games, are you just writing about the item and linking to the product? My fiance and I were talking about making our next site gaming related since we're huge gamers but I'm not sure if it should be review based or what... I haven't used Amazon affiliates much yet but I'd like to try.

I find that The Amazon brand has helped my conversions vs other sites I own which sell other affiliate products.

The one thing I did learn was that it is well worth the time to go beyond generic keyword research and integrate product pricing at Amazon to make the investment of time in the sites worthwhile. When I first started, I'd make 10 sales in a day, and not make enough to buy lunch.....

      Not any more

You have already answered your question yourself.
You say you and your fiance are great gaming fans so what makes you buy a particular game
      There is your first clue.
Reveiws will sell better than just a static site with an ad on it because the buyers are reading something about the game before they buy it.
Like any product do you buy it just because it is there or do you like to read a bit about it first.

True, thanks. We also have a forum for our clan/team so there's already a place to advertise the gaming site...

I've found it easier to make sales through Amazon using single product sites versus multiple product sites. Personally that's what I'd recommend doing to start with because there's nothing more motivating that seeing your first few sales.

    Then scale from there.

For a while I've just been planning and making a site... for 2012 I really need to review and redo the sites... for my site building to evolve based on what works for me.

  • I would say you do not need 100's of websites to make good money. I have many Amazon review websites, but 2 of them alone are making around $2200/month EACH. So you can do it with just 1 or 2 sites.

I would give you some advice and say that I would not build a site for just one product. Which I see quite a few people doing. You want a site that is geared towards one type of product. Say something like swimming pool pumps. And review all of the ones that amazon has, all on one site. So you will have loads of pages (which Google loves). Just make sure your keyword research and your On-page SEO is good. If not, it wont matter what type of site you have, you wont be making all that you can make.

Then I would just concentrate on driving boat loads of traffic to the site.
