News Content Question

Hi

Just wondering about posting news topics. As you all know most people only ever re-produce the news. In fact ive seen dozens of the same story online literally with no other content. But with a lik back to the source, the writer and generally the date.

The question I have; what is the legality behind taking a news story and posting it on your own blog or forum? Is it OK so long as the link is given? And what happens if the link is not given back to the source?

Ive seen much curated content online and in fact im also dabbling in it a little and with curated content the link, title, author and all other relevant info is ALWAYS posted.

Check the news source for syndication and rights. The rule is, if you don't own it or have a license to use it, it's copyright infringement. There are some minor exceptions to that but overall, that's it.

As long as your posting a link back idk why i wouldn't be allowed.

Are they going to shut down wikipedia because it uses some of the same information as other sites. No... they just cite what they need to...

Ya know, there was a thread on the forum last week where I guy used a picture he didn't own because someone told him all he had to do was mention the photographer. He got hit with an $11,000 lawsuit for copyright infringement for using the pic without having a license.
