Choosing a domain - Live in UK - Business Worldwide - .com or .co.uk?

Hello Guys,

I'm currently doing well in my niche and have decided to finally get my keyword rich domain. Only problem Is I reside in the UK (.co.uk) but I am going to ship my products to europe and the rest of the world (.com)

Which should I buy the .com or .co.uk ?

Kindest Regards

If you have the option to choose .com go for it. Use .co.uk when you are interested only in local clients.

Cheers Andy, Will this deter some of my uk customers?

My niche loves the uk market as it only costs a £0.46 stamp to send the product and I just use the post box and not the post office. The postbox is outside my house!

      Thanks for your help andy

        No.

People understand that the dollar is a popular payment currency.

If you really believe that it'll make a difference - offer them both, but it's my experience that people don't care so much but Americans will want US and UK people don't mind.

for worldwide and international product recognition, I highly recommend you to take .com domain name instead of .co.uk... because it will sound like you're more to local product when you try to market your product worldwide...

Just tell in your website that you're in UK, and you're a UK company, marketing your product worldwide.. it'll work , better that way.

Thanks guys, Is it easy to have your US & UK Customer know they can pay in either currency? and change it themselves in a website? I'm going to start off using oscommerce. As I begin My IM journey.

If you're beginning, avoid complicated multi-currency payment solutions. Go for .com and US$ (only!) since it's the internet's currency by default (like English is the internet's language by default). Start simple and complex things up as you master your way through.

As suggested I'd have the option to change currency and I'd make it very clear.

You should give a currency option for every country you are targetting.

There are many people who will not convert in their minds or with a currency converter and you will lose potential sales. I don't offer flat rate for some of my services and I have to convert on behalf of people on a daily basis.

The user experience should be made as simple as possible. The currency is no exception. It's right up there as prime factor.

I have exactly the same dilemma but would go for the dot com every time unless you were only trading or providing a service to the UK

As an aside why don't you buy both and have one redirect to the other ... probably dot co.uk to dotcom?

Or setup a subdomain on the main domain which is UK specific with a pointer/link from the main domain... eg http://yourwebsite.com/uk

Very easy, just add a new Wordpress install through CPanel/Fantastico and install on a new folder /UK

Then your main site will be yoursite.com
you will have a UK specific wordpress folder yoursite.com/uk

Then put a pointer/link from yoursite.com saying something like "UK customers" or a picture of a clickable Union Jack

The only problem with this approach is that you will need to duplicate your site on your /uk folder but everything will appear in £ rather than $

I hope I explained that OK though not convinced it is really what you want to do ....

Domain names don't cost much, so why not get both while you can, and start by working with the .com and selling in dollars, then once that is going well, you can add a local service for the UK, as well and you already have domain ready (so someone else can't get if first!).

I'd take them both and develop the .com first.

If you are serious about developing your business, you should get both.
    Same site on both domains.
