Why ask advice on how to spend money?

I find it a little funny that so many members ask for advice on how to spend their money in here. You'll generally get told to buy something that the person who replies benefits from and you'll get 20 different answers from 20 people.

Does it actually help anyone who has asked??

It baffles me that people will rather be dead set on a certain expenditure rather than working out and stating what they wish to achieve and then figuring out the costs to achieve it.

It really makes no sense for them to do it. It's also not surprising that some people go out of their ways to convince these people they should do what they recommend (and that also benefits them). After all, the kinds of people who come to ask how they should invest their own money are the textbook definition of laydown. They announce to the world that they ARE going to spend money, even though they have NO IDEA what they should spend it on or why. Many of the most reputable people here, though, always suggest to spend nothing, or spend only enough for hosting and a domain, and spend time learning rather than money trying to autopilot their way to an income.

Business on the internet is still business, and the #1 job and responsibility of a businessperson is to have a plan. No amount of money spent matters if you don't know what you're doing.

It's a a bevy of Marketers...Marketers marketing to other marketers in an seemingly endless cycle.

Personally, I don't sell to anyone on this Forum unless someone specifically PM's me to inquire about something I have contributed, stated, or they might have seen in my signature.

Sadly, there are many "Self Proclaimed" Marketing Experts on here that tend to lead unknowing and inexperienced beginners down the "WSO Purchase Path" for the sake of making another $10 or $20. While some of these WSO's may well be valuable, a significant percentage may not be.

    I can't say for sure as I don't purchase WSO's.

I hold a BS in Marketing Management and have been in the field for over 20 yrs...and have never authored a WSO...go figure.

      Well said, Laurence!

And your comment about the expenditure benefiting the person who tells someone how to spend their money illustrates a universal point, be it here, or in the real word. We should not accept the opinions of others as the truth, but rather analyze them and decide for ourselves.

It's what you do when no one is watching
that determines what you will be able to
      do when everyone is watching.

And my opinion is that when you neither buy nor sell WSOs, any opinion you have about them has been pulled out of your arse and should be identified as the crap that it is.

It really doesnt matter if he was talking about you or not because even if you did post something to that effect you were DEFINITELY not the first...or even the 1000th, for that matter. It is seen on here ALL the time.

Starting a business does take investment, but that investment is not always just financial, it is an investment of time and effort as well, and we all want to see a significant return regardless.

Assume you want to buy a car, you will go around and ask what is the best car, every person / dealer who wants to sell a car will tell you his car is the best but you won't take their word until you see alot of people using a product! and those people are trusted people, many people will tell you to buy this and that but you wont buy it until you get the advice from the right person

I actually see the posts as good posts, and I see alot of Warriors recommend useful tools, ofcourse some will recommend tools that are not that great but the majority will recommend good tools or a must have tools to save time and money with great results, it is always good to take more than 1 or 2 opinions then you do the research , especially if you do not have alot of experience, I guess that is one of the reasons why Forums are still popular!

Edit: I bought alot of useless products or products that didn't work for me ( maybe it worked for someone else) and I should have asked before I started buying and getting excited , that would have saved me alot of money.. with all these squeeze pages and the promises that they promise.. you never know which one is the best until you ask or try it your self

I think it all depends on how they ask. Most of the one or two-liner questions are too general in nature, so I ignore those.

But every once in awhile someone takes the time to actually give some detail on what they are planning to doing and they're genuinely asking how to invest their $500, $2,000 or whatever amount they list since they're looking to see what may have worked well for others.

But that's the minority. Most of the questions that get asked are really too general in nature to really address their real issue, hence the 20 answers from 20 different people (we all have our own marketing and technical biases).

I also find it funny to hear people here asking for advice about money.

We all will find books, sayings, etc. that we find of value to us. One that I have found quite useful is "The Richest Man in Babylon" by George S. Clason. Published in 1926, it has lots of wisdom contained within its pages.

    http://www.ccsales.com/the_richest_man_in_babylon.pdf

One that applies to this discussion is from page 13:

""A twelfth month after Algamish had gone he again returned and said to me, 'Son, have you paid to yourself not less than one-tenth of all you have earned for the past year?'

"I answered proudly, 'Yes, master, I have.' " 'That is good,' he answered beaming upon me, 'and what have you done with it?'

" 'I have given it to Azmur, the brickmaker, who told me he was traveling over the far seas and in Tyre he would buy for me the rare jewels of the Phoenicians. When he returns we shall sell these at high prices and divide the earnings.'

" 'Every fool must learn,' he growled, 'but why trust the knowledge of a brickmaker about jewels? Would you go to the breadmaker to inquire about the stars? No, by my tunic, you would go to the astrologer, if you had power to think. Your savings are gone, youth, you have jerked your wealthtree up by the roots. But plant another. Try again.

And next time if you would have advice about jewels, go to the jewel merchant. If you would know the truth about sheep, go to the herdsman. Advice is one thing that is freely given away, but watch that you take only what is worth having. He who takes advice about his savings from one who is inexperienced in such matters, shall pay with his savings for proving the falsity of their opinions.' Saying this, he went away."

I am in total agreement to the this post as these types of posts are not useful in any context rather create confusion and ambiguity. We should discuss some useful and informative topics of general interest here.

If they listen to some of us. I never tell them to spend that money. I tell them to do more research and figure out what kind of online business they want to get into and make a plan. After they've got that figured out, then and only then should they spend whatever money they need to implement their plan.
