Finally decided to start having a play with twitter today after looking at a couple of WSO on the subject, have decided that my first course of action would be to generate a number of followers in our niche before going too much further.

Bear in mind that these are 90 percent niche specific followers, i have managed to generate just under 600 over 2 seperate accounts in the last 5 hours. Im amazed how quickly things have happened. Not entirely sure how im going to monetise this yet, but hopefully if i keep stacking the numbers up, should be able to put it to productive use at some point.

What do you guys use twitter for to generate a little extra $$?

Twitter has become more and more about automated spammers. One needs to find a small circle of friends and interact with them. Twitter still remains a force in social media. Unlike 3 years ago, it should merely be a part of a total media campaign.

There are groups within Twitter that will be of interest to the marketer. If you are a marketer, those groups are the best part of Twitter.

It's what you do when no one is watching
that determines what you will be able to
      do when everyone is watching.

Twitter is huge in social media, for personal and business use! It is a great way to target your audience and advertise! Also, it's free!

It seems that CPA is the biggest earner for folks on twitter. I don't often use it as a money maker directly, I use it to get traffic back to my money-making sites.

I personally think that using Twitter to make money online is a waste of time. I still think, after all these years of trying different things, that paid advertising is the best way to go.

Twitter is tough. The traffic was some of the lowest converting traffic I've seen.

But then again, maybe I gave up a bit too soon.

I guess it depends on what your objective is. If you want to build brand recognition and you are willing to put the time in, then it's very effective. It can be a good traffic driver too if you have the compelling content to offer and use some imagination in how you promote it. However, IMHO to be effective, you have to be willing to put the personal effort in -- others will disagree on that specific point and hopefully they will offer their insight here for you as well. There are two ways you can think of Twitter:

    - The CB radio of the web
    - A crowded cocktail party

If you love networking, you'll love Twitter. I certainly do, but I recognize that it takes a good deal of my time and I have to prioritize.

    Regards,
    jim

Twitter traffic is hard to convert.
    In my experience.
You really have to think out of the box to make some money.
