Plz tell - Did I made a massive mistake

This is my 1st site and 1st attempt to earn money using IM.

I signed up for amazon aff. to promote amazon items but without any particualt niche  I thought that I will promote everyday life goods like computers, games, cameras, juicers etc. (i.e things which I love and I love all these stuffs instead of only 1 thing.....I think IM dont work like this). So till now I have written 800+ words reviews abt. items like computer keyboard, camera, juicers etc etc.....U see wt I m trying to convey

2nd mistake: Since I decided to promote all and every item randomly which I like, I bought a nice but generic domain name like happy-life.com (not original site..just an example). So the domain has no keywords in its url.....

What do u think seniors....Is their any chance of getting successful?
Thnx a lot.

There is always a chance to be successful, but only if you work at it. Did amazon become huge because of the keywords in the domain? I don't think so. What about google? There is no keyword there... The potential is there for you, but only if you put forth the effort to get it done.

You can still rank a site that doesn't have a keyword domain. I have done it... I have an article directory that ranks for tons of stuff.

I think if you were to pick out a niche, and approach it that way you would be much better off, and it would be easier to succeed. I don't think you have made such a massive mistake that it renders everything useless. At most you made a $10 mistake with the domain name, but even that is questionable.

I'd suggest putting your best foot forward and keep moving on. It could turn into a huge authority site. Maybe you should continue to work on it, while starting a niche website?

I wouldn't call it a "huge mistake", but rather a first step in a learning process.

I would suggest you consider promoting products that you can't find in your local Walmart or Home Depot and that are relatively inexpensive to ship.

Lots of people might not agree with me but i like the idea of a website with a broad range of products. The hardest thing for you will be to produce the content.

If you had micro niche you could get away with 10 reviews, but having a broad niche you would need 100 reviews or more.

I don't think you will make money fast with that site, but i would keep building it and have it as the "Flagship" site and build other smaller micro niche sites as you go.

A massive mistake would be getting drunk and waking up with your sister-in-law. Mistakes in Internet marketing can easily be corrected by asking questions (like you're doing) and implementing the correct answers.

P.S. Stay away from your sister in law.

Mistakes are part of the learning process. Only people who don't do anything never make mistakes. You've taken a step in the right direction just because you've taken action.

Your chances of ranking in the SERPs is decreased given that you don't target any particular topic or niche with your site and your site seems to be just a generic review directory of unrelated products.

You can still rank for some of the keywords desribing the products, for example "product A review", etc., but you are going to need more authority and quality backlinks than if you focused on just one niche or a bunch of products similar and related to each other.

But there's still a chance to rank for longer-tail keywords, anyway. However, if you haven't started any backlinking campaigns yet, it could be a good idea to buy a bunch of EMDs and put your products on them, maybe add a few more (to add depth to your site) and only then start backlinking.

    Just my thoughts, anyway.

Thnx for ur support. I was suffering from little tension due to it. Yes after adding a few more reviews to it I will start with a niche website. Just thinking how will I manage both these websites as I have to do my other web design works too. Anyway thanks...I will implement wt u said.

As others are saying, what you are doing is part of the learning process. Well done for taking some action, keep doing that, and learning as you go along, and you will be successful!

Google rewards relevance, so a tightly-focussed site with keywords in the domain and page titles, etc. will get more traffic than a broader spread. Another problem with a broad-ranging site is that Google likes a little good quality content, such as a post or two a day, but if you produce the same quality content and post 10 pages a day, Google gives you a lot LESS traffic per post, than if you put the same posts up 1 or 2 per day. So once you've tested your system and seen that it makes a profit, you can implement it more effectively over a bunch of narrow niche sites, than you could putting the exact same content on one big site, plus you'll get the added advantages of the narrower relevance of each site, which Google likes better than a big general site.

    Lesson learned.

Some domain name prodivers offer a refund depending on their length. You could try to get a refund, and then buy new domains with the money you get back.
