Why You Can Stink As A Marketer And Still Make Money In *Small* Niches
I came to a personal revelation recently.
I thought I'd share a bit of it here.
It explains why many people say "Find a small niche with little competition and market to them."
It's not that there's more money there, or even that the PPC costs are too high or the SEO landscape is too competitive. (Although those are factors.)
The real big reason behind this is due to the stages of an existing market.
And if you're new to marketing then catching a niche in Stage 1 can really help you succeed despite your lack of skills.
In stage 1 there's very little competition, and it could be a new market, or one that hasn't been discovered yet.
Stage 1 is very easy to market to because people haven't BEEN marketed to before.
For example: Imagine the weight loss industry in it's "Stage 1" infancy. In this stage you could literally use "How To Lose Weight" as a great headline. And it would probably work very well.
Also in stage 1 your marketing process, copywriting skills, etc. don't matter nearly as much because you have less "skepticism" and distrust to overcome. You also don't have the "I've heard that before" reaction.
Stage 2 is just about the same, but it moves to something like "Lose Weight Faster" and people will still read it.
Once you start progressing in market "stages" marketing becomes more difficult, and you really have to be a masterful marketer to hook people.
Lesson learned?
If you are a master marketer, the world can be your oyster.
But *niches* don't matter as much as their stages.
If you can find a large niche that is "undermarketed" to, that may be a better place to start than a tiny niche with little to no search volume.
How you go about identifying your market/product is up to you. But having a basic realization of how markets go through stages and how to approach them can really help.
Happy Friday everyone!
