Im still a newbie 8 months now. My site gonzotrucker is in the truck driving niche, and it's been online 6 months now with no earned income. I average 30 page views a day with a high bounce rate, and maybe 2 clicks a week. I have an Amazon store on it, and sometimes i write a story blog post followed by a review for a product. I.e. getting lost in NYC then a review for a GPS. Im not ready to give up its my first site and my baby. But with no results not even 1 sale im thinking maybe im doing the
Wrong things. So im asking for the warriors help what would you do? maybe change from a blog to a forum? I dont know where to go from here. My goal is to earn $300 to $600 a month with it. Any suggestions which way should i go? Im not a very creative person so if i write an ebook i would have to outsource that with my information. I've got suggestions to start getting people certified to drive a truck but here in the USA that is not how it works you must get that at the DMV not online. Any comments welcome thanks

I have no idea what you are trying to sell on your site.

Just because you are getting some people to visit your site, does not mean that you shluld earn any money.

If I were you, I would get into MLM online and do paid advertising to generate a hungry new and fresh flow of leads everyday.

30 page views a day is not all that great to be honest. How much content is on your site and where do you rank in the search engines? If your site only has a few pages of content, then you are gonna wanna increase that. I typically target 25-50 pages of information per site I build. What do you do for backlinks?

    Gonzo,

I don't know much about truckers but don't they spend a lot of time on the road? Where would they find the time to go online and search for truck related issues?

My gut feeling is that when they get home, all they want to do is put their feet up and not have to think about work.

Have you checked your monthly keyword searches? I just took a quick look at Googles External Keyword tool and there only about max 5000 monthly searches on the word "truckers".

I don't think that's very high, but I am very new at keyword research, so someone more experienced would have to chip in here.

Making money on-line as a newbie is not easy and not many make much/any money in the opening months so don't despair.

    The best quality is 'never give up.' I am in a similar position to you but some things I do everyday are;

Make sure I learn something new each day on-line

Stick to a blue print/business model

Tackle one problem at a time and not start something new until I have mastered it

Keep trying to build on my list

    Back link

    Have some fun

Ask for help (like your doing) on this forum

I don't know if you are using a mentor or someone on-line that you like and respect but I find it essential as a newbie.

Also, try and forget about earning money. First things first, provide value, answer the questions your readers are asking, build trust and in time I believe money will follow. This is what I try and made my first sale two weeks ago.

    Stick with it!

Im just worried that maybe im spinning my wheels in this niche. I have some friends who are helping me. They told me you're a truck driver so blog about that. When i look at my competition's websites i feel despair. Im just at the point where you feel like giving up but i won't do that. I feel like a lot of my competitors are not truck drivers but internet marketing masters so how can i compete with that. All i want to do is earn $800 to $1000 a month so i can move to Philippines. Seems so easy just $1000 a month i earn that in 4 days of regular work. But over 1000 hours of online work has yielded me $50 so far.

    Gonzo,

All Internet Marketing Masters started out right where you and I are today - at the beginning

If it's not working, then you need to look at something else. Have you done any keyword research?

I just took a look at your site. Are you a girl? I was convinced you were a guy

Your blog needs some work. It does not look professional and it is very hard to make sense of it. The font you use for your blog posts is too big and that picture of the eagle is taking up valuable space on your blog.

    Just a few thoughts.

P.S. If you are a girl, you could use that to your advantage. It's a good spin.

I don't think you have fully worked out who your target audience is and what they want. If this site is for truck drivers, you are not really speaking to them.

Your "prime" screen real estate is wasted as you have a large eagle/flag picture up top and then the same picture in the post pinned to the top of your posts. So in this section there is no useful info for truck drivers who come to visit.

The left ad section is not loading in Google Chrome on the home page , but seems to work when I click on an article. You have the Ads by Google line which always annoys me because it tries to look like a navigation bar and tricks people into clicking on it.

Your articles have no paragraphs, making them hard to read.

You are showing the whole article instead of short excerpts on the home page, so if I don't like the first article, I likely won't scroll down.

And you don't have a powerful list building pitch - just a "grab my email feed" box.

Your tag line is CDL Training, Truck Drivers Salary which is just key words, not a real title.

I think you forgot to focus on your target audience and providing them with real value - instead the focus seems to be making money on adwords and stuffing it with key words.

Overall, I think you are in need of a major makeover and need to approach it from your customer's needs point of view, not your need to make money.

You do understand that you can't just put up a site and wait for the target audience to come, right? Have you written any articles? Do you do something to get traffic to your site every day? Do you add to your site daily or at least once a week?

Instead of just having your products in a line, write an article on your site about them and tell the benefits of each and once that is done add the ad for the product.

If you have access to more products put them in a category and add them on a sidebar, that way if someone comes looking for something particular they know where to look. Example, if you have more than one kind of CB.

Are you doing any kind of SEO?

By the way, I drove truck decades ago.

I know a lot of truckers, and they don't have much time for the Internet. When they do look something up, it is usually something they heard on the radio or saw at Loves or TA or whatever... So my advice would be to do some offline marketing to pick them up... If you're good and do it well you can probably dominate the word-of-mouth advertising among them fairly quickly that way.

    Good luck!

This won't help you get traffic...but as mentioned by someone earlier...you'll keep the traffic you do get if you'll add paragraph breaks. It makes the blog harder to read and less appealing when it's large blocks of text.

I wonder if you could try to get traffic from those who want to be truck drivers; but aren't yet? There are a lot of people looking for a way to make a living.

I am assuming the sites you are talking about are the one in your signature.

I checked out your site and to be honest, it looks very unprofessional. So, I would start by re-designing the layout so visitors can take me more serious.

Do a Google search for free template. You will probably find something professional looking for free.

Lastly, if you want to earn more, you need more targeted traffic. The fastest way to get visitors is by paying for it. But, if that's the road you want to take, you need to learn how it works (PPC, Facebook Ads, etc...) or you'll end up losing money.

I would certainly change your header to truck rather than a Bald Eagle, if that is your logo reduce it and put it on one side.
Get a few of the latest truck pics, even try writing about and comparing various models, anything to generate a bit of interest and reduce your bounce rate.

From what I know about truckers, they love their trucks and spend a lot of money on them.

So see if you can find some custom truck parts and gadgets for the cab, also don't forget mobile phones, laptops and books

Indeed... I'm a little jealous that I didn't think of this niche myself, and I'm actually in a great position for it.

I'll give you a head start before I steal your idea though.

You need a serious re-design of your website. It looks crowded, and a mess.

Continually adding SEO content directed towards niches within the trucking industry may help. The usual SEO practices.

Also, what are you selling? Hoping for people to click ads? Focus on that, and then revolve the website around it.

I need to hire someone to fix it for me because i just can't figure it out. Also Seo it for me. But i just dont think it's a money maker. Also i can't write every day im not an over the road driver i have nothing to write about my job is boring. I drive across the desert at night, and never even see any people or traffic. Thinking about just hiring somebody to build my next site in a diffrent niche. The problem is im not very creative, and i suck at writing. Like putting text in the header instead of the picture i dont know how to do that. It is a weaver theme and no place to write text or i just dont know how. Product review i dont use those things anymore in my truck.

So after 8 months of money, effort, and hours of your life, you're going to quit??

Your problem is not a lack of ability. It is a lack of focused organization.

If you don't know how to do something you can either learn, or outsource. As for your writing, it matches your target audience for the most part.

The site can be a money-maker.

    1. Get rid of all of the "loud" junk crowding up the pages, i.e. AdSense
    2. Get a picture with some power in it... That pic is sad and weak (truckers like power)
    3. Do some good offline marketing-- Seriously, consider your audience.
    4. Make it fun for truckers... You are so bored all the time, give visitors something fun.

As others have said, truckers are probably too busy driving to go online. But aspiring truckers have all the time in the world, those are the people I would target and I'd focus on what those people need.

Your site is something of a trainwreck however but if you clean it up and get some focus I think you could do okay with it. Once you get all the extra junk off it, start hitting up every truck driving school in the country to sell them ad space. 10 ads @ $100 a month = your $1000 goal. You need more traffic etc. but I bet with some offline advertising you could get it going.
