Hard to say, but if you're a decent writer, try to limit yourself to no more than 500-800 words per page max, or even better, split up your content so people will have to browse multiple pages.

The Google Panda update will reward you, and your site should rise in the SERPs if you manage to write compelling enough to walk them through the split pages of your "seed" article, as your stats will improve - both time on site and pages per visit.

These stats will give google a sense of the user experience on your site, and if you understand how to master this way of structuring and breaking down your content, you are actually making it a lignter read for your visitors.

I know people will probably disagree, but this is based on my experience, and it works for me!

      Hi Mary Jane,

This is a long winded reply for a reason......... To prove a point.

Heime dies. His wife calls the local newspaper to find out how much an ad would cost ..to announce his death in the local newspaper.

"what would you like to say ma'am" the salesman says.

      "Heimes dead" she says

"ma'am, the first 5 words are free, would you like to say something else?"

Ooh... Ok... Let me see..." she thinks about this for one minute and then says

"Ok, I'd like to say, Heimes dead, Cadillac for sale"

Ok, it's a lame joke, but the point is made....... Don't use more words than you have to

      Happy 2012

      GW

I'd say around 500-800 words is best for articles. A lot of people won't read real long articles, so over 800 might be a bit much.

There is no hard max, but as the others said, it's probably best to limit it to 800 words or less for readability purposes.

Don't limit yourself until or unless you are pretty much sure about it. The standard word count is 400 to 800 per page as far as my knowledge is concerned. The word count should be compatible with the niche and nature of the website.

If you are doing reviews for affiliate sales more is better though. The more thorough your review, the better informed your visitor will be, the less likely for him to look elsewhere for additional info before clicking through to amazon.

I wouldn't worry about too much, I'd be more concerned with not enough.

As mentioned above, if it is too long, you may lose your readers. But, if you're post is well written and very informative, you don't need to worry about that.

I think it depends on the topic, if it requires more information, no point making the page short and not providing the information they need.
