Where do I get the money for this?

Hi. I haven't posted in a while and I have tried a lot of things to get started manking my own money (Clickbank and other web things, selling China goods, etc). So far, I haven't had much luck, but I am thinking of having a freelancer make a software for me.

The problem is that, in order to get a good quality software, I need 2 things:

1. Hire a good freelancer with a notable profile and portfolio.
2. Pay a LOT of money for it.

The software I have in mind is a generic development software that would probably be in the hundreds of thousands of dollars (it fits under the 3D/CAD category). I don't have that kind of money in the bank.

My question is pretty basic: where do I get this much money for paying the freelancer? Any suggestions?

For the beginning I suggest you to start with a smaller project and as you go you will collect money for your expensive freelance project. Start small, work hard and success will follow.

Hi. Thanks for the responses. The smaller project idea sounds like an idea. I'll see what I can get done.

I suggest you research how to write a business plan.

Creat an entire business plan and approach large investors or banks with your business model. Just an idea for a software won't do it.

Some things you need to explain to your investors are:

    - Target audience
    - Market competition
    - How the product will be marketed.
    - Where the money will go once it starts earning.
    - ROI for the investors / timeframe.

To be honest with you, if you are thinking of hiring a programmer of eLance or oDesk for a project of this calibre, I wouldn't recommend it. There are a lot of flakey contractors out there that may not be able to commit the time and development into this.

Once you have developed your business plan you should approach software development firms. You could then discuss various JV potentials with them.

    Good Luck!

If you don't have the money for the developer, designer, UX guy and more now whatever they come back with I would look at having 3x the budget set in place for problems, trends and program trends and not to mention having the cash in place to launch it and make it a success spending 6 figures plus would be one hell of a dent for something you can't profit from.

There is a lot of heavy weight programs in the 3D/CAD market why are you going to make a difference?

Is there a demand for it?

Why should I spend $4000 with you instead of AutoDesk?

Whats my ROI and how long?

    How do I market it?

All these and more need to be answered and more, if you get a solid plan in place with real figures (then depending where you are based) you could look at getting government backing, loans, grants, and so on

I started out writing for clients and working part time. From just a few hundred dollars a month, today I have a business which churns nearly a million words a month and I make a few thousands of dollars in monthly profits just by hiring writers

So there is a lot you can do

A good place to start is WF or Elance or Guru.com
