Hello fellow warriors. I've been doing some niche research for amazon affiliate marketing and I found out that most of the niches in amazon are saturated with high competition. How to tackle this problem?

Amazon is filled with gold nuggets, you just need to find them. Personally im going after the high competition niches in 2012. I like a challenge :-)

Yeah maybe I just need to keep trying to find those gold nuggets. All the best for your 2012 challenge. Maybe I'll try that once I gain more advance knowledge of internet marketing. hehe. Cheers!

There is competition, but nothing I have seen is even close to being "saturated".

The problem seems to be that you are limiting your thinking and your research.

There are a bazillion products in Amazon - everything from pooper scoopers to 80's clothing for overweight people.

Saying that all of the niches are saturated only means you didn't dig deep enough.

Bill, Paul, and EBR all hit the nail on the head.

Also, niche saturation is a myth. A lot of people confuse perceived, heavy competition with saturation and the two couldn't be more different.

It's a myth because you can compete in so many different ways and on many different levels. You can also compete using different distribution channels because noboday owns them all. It could be as simple as bidding on longtail keywords or simply having better converting sales copy.

Another way to compete is to specialize. And yet another way to compete is find places or JV partners that your competition hasn't discovered yet (again, nobody owns all the distribution channels).

Don't let competition get in the way, it's a sign that people are making money. Find out how to leverage that to your own benefit.

Here's a tip for ya. Think of a broad niche, then narrow it down

    Example = Electric guitars

    lefhanded
    seven string
    green electric guitars
    black electric guitars
    any other colour electric guitars

    Amplifiers
    tube amps
    pre amps
    etc

You also have effects pedals / multi effects pedals

    distortion
    digital delay
    ect

Thats how i find a niche.

The idea of saturation and even heavy competition (which is different) are both relative and depend mostly on the type of marketing skills you have in your toolbox.
One person might look at a 'busy' niche and think "no way, I don't stand a chance", where the next person might look at the same niche and see an opportunity to brush aside the competition easily.

Think outside the box. Sell products nobody else has thought of before. If you're selling e-books, do some market research and "create" a new niche. If you're selling a physical product, customize it in some new and innovative way. The important thing is to first do some market research and find out what people want that they don't KNOW they want yet.

Unfortunately, everything these days is saturated to a certain extent. Amazon is still lucrative if you come up with some new ideas to sell some of the less promoted products. As somebody above very rightly mentioned, market research is the key. Find out something new that people want/could be interested in, and work from there. Just as important as your marketing techniques is your product selection.

    Good luck!

It matters what you look into. I mean, this is like asking is Google saturated. A lot of areas are, especially if you are looking in broad categories. For example, if you just make an Amazon affiliate site about computers, you probably won't make much. If you make a website about Linux gaming computers for people with vision disabilities, then you have a niche.

PS: I don't know if that niche even exists, but I'm sure if it does it wouldn't be too saturated.

Try more long tail keywords and don't limit your search to those that are only getting 1000+ exact searches per month. Several of my most successful sites geared towards Amazon products get half of that amount of traffic, but they are very targeted, and easier to convert.

      Happy New year to all!

Dig harder, they are out there!

How are you determining the competition? - If you are doing anything other than ONLY looking at the top 10 results, then stop using those methods. You want to be ranked in top ten so look to see if you can beat them with the correct amount of SEO and WORK.

I think a lot of folks are being a bit limited in how they define "niches" - everything is about product names and keywords.

"Bathroom towels" is not a niche, it's a range of products.

      Possible niches might be:

      > High school graduates and their parents looking to outfit a dorm room at college.

      > Newly divorced (mostly) men outfitting their new digs.

      > Anyone looking for a practical gift for a wedding or bridal shower.

      > Use your imagination.

One mundane product, three possible niches off the top of my head. And every niche also lends itself to list building and offering a wide range of products.
