Help needed- online storage where my customers can upload files without seeing other customers files

Hi there

Hope you are all well and looking forward to the new year....i guess our friends in Australia aren't far off it now!

I have been looking for a solution for a business i am looking to start.

After a customer has placed an order i want to be able to direct them to a place online where....

- they can upload the necessary files i need from them (eg pictures)
- they don't have to sign up or have an account with
- they can't see other customer files
- low cost for me

Ideally i want to create a new folder for each customer, share that link with them for them to upload without seeing any other customer files.

Dropbox was so close i thought, but when sharing a folder it asks for them to sign up for a free account if they aren't already a member.

Although its not the end of the world as a solution, i want to make my customers lives as easy as possible. i.e Open email, click on the link and upload the files to that place and then i start work. No sign up, no confirmation needed....no messing around!

Does this facility exist and have i just not stumbled across it?

Does anyone know another angle i could take that i have not thought of.
I'll be very appreciative if someone can help.

Thanks and all the best for 2012

Tonio

    Hey Tonio,

I suggest you take a look at an open source version of Drop Box. There are a few developers that have released free open source systems that are very similar to Drop Box. You can install one of these open source systems onto your own server and run your own show.

You can minimize risk by using a VPS instead of a dedicated server. You can get a VPS for under $30/month.

    Some open source solutions include:

    ownCloud
    Sparkle Share
    Syncany
    iFolder
    Signature

There are a number of file transfer services that will allow you to accept files from clients. For example, Sendthisfile lets you create a webform with a "FileBox" that clients use to send you files. I'm pretty sure they don't need to make an account. Paid service starts at around $5/month.

Try googling "transfer large files" and similar keywords to find other services, too.
