How Does This Website Make Money?

For the last year I have been working on certain wordpress blogs, selling Cb style products such as 'How To Stop Snoring', 'Learn Magic' etc. The main structure of these blogs is that the sales page acts as the home page, with the other pages containing articles which are relevant content and link back to the sales page. This makes them good for SEO, however these kinds of sites are not really what I enjoy doing.

SimplyShredded.com

The website above is the kind of thing that would like to start up. However, this site isnt selling a single main product. It mainly provides information and guidance. And there doesnt seem to be a huge amount of advertising either. If i was to create a site similiar to this in structure and content, how would I generate income?

Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated?

Well you could sell ad space in the form of banners. You could also advertise related clickbank products.

SimplyShredded is massive! they've got sponsors, ads, more ads at the bottom of every post

The guy makes a bomb and I'm happy for him, It's purely one of his interest as in allot of the photos the owners standing with famous bodybuilders and he met ZYZZ!!!!!!!!! so jealous :p

And there doesnt seem to be a huge amount of advertising either.

There doesn't need to be when their getting millions of hits :p and i'd say that website is cluttered with ads :p

I see plenty of advertisements on the right tab.

That's how they get the money.

This is how you'd do it as well.

Speaking of SimplyShredded - RIP King Zyzz.

    Cheers for the info guys

So how much would the owner of an average website with an average amount of visitors be able to earn from a similar amount of advertising?

I never thought that I would find fellow Zyzz followers on WF either!

    RIP King Zyzz indeed

A bit off topic - yes. I have registered there. Is there some kind of a special support group for ripped warriors?

Yeah i definitely am Aside from IM I'm well into my sport and fitness. Also hoping to join the Royal Marines next year as well. Basically anything such as bodybuilding/fitness/health/military is really my passion. And if I can combine that with IM then great

Back to the point now I feel a little bit of a newb for asking this question, as with a little examination it is quite easy to see how this site makes its $$$.

How would you go about doing SEO for a site like that? Would it just be the same as any other?

Because I dont know how you would aim for certain keywords for example.

Could you not make that sort of site on Wordpress?

I only say because I'd hate for you to waste your time.

It looks very old and is very hard to navigate.

I know it's popular but could that be from the author + it's history.

I don't know much about HTML but it looks like something a newbie produced on his first shot at a wysiwyg editor.

Speaking of popular fitness blogs of wordpress, and since our BB you might not be interested :p, but AlKavaldo.com is on a basic theme, and I think Dragon Door and Ross Training are both wordpress.

3 of them are top, top sites, though you probably know.

If I was you, I'd rather concentrate on content and pay a great designed/coder some cash to produce a great site.

That site doesn't even have a logo. Yeah it's huge, but so is the author.

I also see adverts everywhere. I absolutely detest fitness supplements and the use of them to make money of the unsuspecting. Maybe why love the articles on T-Nation, but hate the site + the way Thibs etc sold their soul.

But that seems to be the chunk of his income.

That site is Wordpress using a free theme called scarlett, which can be downloaded here

Haven't used the theme or downloaded it so I don't endorse it, but there it is if you want to check it out.

Did you see that page with the top 50 supplements? I'm assuming that is a redirect to an affiliate link. Talk about volume sales!

Depending on the traffic volume, those ads coudle be converting like crazy. One other way to monitize a site like this would be to place appropriate affiliate links in the posts for high end products related to the topic.

As for averages, there aren't any. Everything depends on the quality of your site, the number of visitors and the number of sales or clicks the ads bring in. This appears to be a high quality production. But without specific stats it's impossible to even guess on the revenue.
