Blog Commenting Questions

I am trying to do some blog commenting and the blogs in my niche don't seem to have a signature where you put your web url as a backlink under each comment.

When creating a profile there is an option for my personal web address.
When my comment is left, there is not a link back to my site, but my profile name is clickable (there is a link from my profile).

IS this a Backlink???

If not, should I keep searching for relevant places to post and leave a link?

Thanks Lucas.

Are you commenting on blogs in your niche? Are you leaving a link behind?

My understanding that 'blog commenting' was a good way for relevant backlinks (which is for SEO purposes?), and if nothing else wouldn't it generate a little traffic just from the blog users?
Providing of course you can leave a link behind.

Correct me if i'm wrong please, i am new to IM

Its little use to SEO unless you are doing a ton of them. Hence the creation of Scrapebox. If you are one of the first comments on a high traffic blog in your niche and you leave a valuable comment than you can get traffic to your site. Most blog have the no follow option on.

    Hi Lucas,

I don't think that will count as a backlink. You will need to make a lot of comments with backlinks to see results. I disagree with James that Scrapebox can replace manual comments. If you write personalized, relevant comments then they are more likely to make it onto the better more influential blog pages. Just make sure you find blogs in your niche where you can leave a URL, and that you write good comments. Most importantly, try to find do-follow blogs so that Google and other search engines can pick up on the new backlinks. Best of luck :-)

Really and one more step, let me say, if you have permanent HIGH PR5,6,7 and even PR 8 HOME PAGE DO-FOLLOW BACKLINKS, sure you can see your websites there on page 1 and if its your money making site, you can see a lot of paypal notifications every hour a day...

I never said Scrapebox will replace manual comments. People use scrapebox to post thousands of comments. Its a tool. If you are trying to spread yourself to thousands then use scrapebox. For targeted traffic from high traffic blog then make sure you get there early and write comment of high value.

The question for me is... is there a tool you can use to find out if blogs are follow or nofollow? It would be a waste of time posting on nofollow blogs otherwise.

You need nofollow links mixed into your backlinks. It will look very suspicious to google if all of your backlinks are only dofollow.

Is that a true fact? That seems a bit odd, as I would have thought that 'nofollow' means that Google wouldn't crawl that particular site (or section), therefore meaning it wouldn't know if you posted your back link there or not?

I'm probably wrong as I'm no expert, but hey I gotta ask..

There is a nofollow/dofollow plugin for firefox web browser. I think I got it from download dot com.
After you perform a google search, you right click on page and select nofolow/dofollow. It highlights dofollow with blue and nofollow in red.

That's because they don't want your spam. Take the hint.

How is it spam when he is posting comments within his own niche?

I would be interested to hear your non spam SEO proposal if we are counting out community comments?

All he is doing is what a majority of people do to get links. You must be the exception and a bit special and different.

I can see they don't want spam, as I don't want spammers leaving garbage on my blog.
That's why I'm creating profiles on these blogs and forums in my niche and making relevant and informative comments.

      Thanks everybody for your input.

There is software out there that can analyze backlinks to a site such as SEO Spyglass. If you run it on any website, a top ranking one, you will see that it shows a list of backlinks and stats regarding the links. You will see that many backlinks are NoFollow but still count as a backlink. You can do this manually on Google as well. DoFollow are better/higher quality, but NoFollow also count.

Relevant dofollow blog backlinks have worked great for me. Just be sure to keep the blog posts relevant and interesting. Don't just post to post, read the article and comment. Include anchor text.
