here is my action plan

I have chosen a weight loss sub niche as I'm interested in it and also I'm trying lose weight these days.
1.Firstly, I will have one of the warriors built a good, proffessional looking website.
2.I will go after long tail and less competetive keywords as I'm a newbie and due to the brutal competition in this niche.
3.I will make a "weight loss article category" in my website. I will add at least two articles every week. Each article will target one of my keywords.Articles will be unique and qualified. I will do my best to add value for my visitors.
4. I will make a "product review category" where I review 3-5 clickbank products.
5. I don't know much about SEO. I will learn it by doing.

So, this is my plan. Is there anything wrong or missing with it. I will be pleased to hear your advice.

One last question, Should I take the backlinks to the homepage or to the review pages?
Is it neccessary to take backlinks to all the pages, posts, articles etc in a website?

Are you going to build a list? Are you going to buy any backlink tools? SEO is the most complicated traffic generation method because of the insane competition. I suggest you have another traffic generation method in place while you are learning and experimenting with SEO. My mom still gets emails from the diet solution lady which she talks to me about every once in a while. She bought the program a year ago. That is the power of email marketing.

Thanks for your answer. I also want to collect e mails in the same website by giving away something free. This will be a while later.
As Seo, I'm thinking of forum posting, social bookmarking, article directories, guest blogging and blog commenting.

This is a big mistake, in my opinion. Especially in this niche. For myself, I would do nothing else at all until I had the opt-in system and autoresponder working and tested. I certainly wouldn't spend a single penny on having a website made, without those. Don't get me wrong - I wish you very well with it, if you try it ... but you're very much braver than I am: for myself, I would not really expect to make a sale at all, in this niche, by depending on search engines for traffic and not building a list from the very first day!

Yes, Alexa you are right. The competition in this niche is fierce. But I found have found some long tail keywords. According to Traffic Travis they are relatively easy to rank. Of course, once I have fully understood the email marketing I will have opt-in system.

You did here your onsite plan. If you are planning to gain traffic from search engine, you also need to make a plan for link building.

Secondly, target 2-4 page not all pages that will be your landing page..

No, no necessary to get back-links for all pages. Build back-links for your targeted pages (2-4).

You could drive some traffic by creating good quality articles, putting them on your blog but also submitting them to the main article directories. You will need to do this regularly for it to be effective though.

Find forums that are relevant to your niche (there should be loads- it's a hot topic especially at this time of year) and that will allow you to put a link to your site in your signature. Then make sure you make some useful and relevant posts, this will ensure that people are encouraged to check out your site. You could put a link in to a free report you are giving away (like everyone else I would recommend building a list from day 1).

It is a very competitive niche- can you find an unique angle for your site to make it stand out from all the others out there? All the best, let us know how it goes.

      Hi

You say you have identified low competition long tail keywords........

I think this might be a problem for you later

You are trying to get traffic via SEO..... Whats the number of searches per month? Don't forget, IF 5,000 people are searching for that search term..... then maybe 10% of them might click on your site and then only 2-5% of those will convert. Is the effort really worth the expense of having a site built?

Your SEO might be great and you may get to the SERP you are targeting, but you might get shagged by the fact that you have to make your title and description so compelling, in order to stand out, your SEO might suffer.

Your methodology is ok, perhaps your niche isn't. In this niche, there's a reason something is low competition.

Anyway, Happy 2012. All the best

      GW

        Hey Zonkow

I feel that I need to offer you a few words of encouragement as someone who is also in the weight loss niche. Actually, I like to think of weight loss as a market with a multitude of niches within in it.

OK so I am a total IM noob, straight up and down. I've been actively promoting my weight loss site since November 2011. I've made half a dozen sales since then (the first of which was last week)... purely with SEO.

Now I'm not an SEO expert (heck only found out what SEO was in March last year) and I don't even know what I'm doing half the time BUT I've made sales and I'm growing in traffic. Not much, but if I can make sales with only 50 visitors a day (in fact with my 1st sale I only had about 30), in a so called saturated market/niche imagine what can be done when my traffic really takes off.

No I don't have a list yet (oops my bad), but that's my next urgent project and I'm really excited about kicking off my campaign.

So do not be put off by the super competitiveness of our market/niche. Instead, embrace it. Be fearless and just make it work for you. Anything and everything is possible my friend.

        All the best!

    Hey bro...
based on your detailed overview plan, you'll have the potential to make your site a authority niche website, moreover if you or your team has the knowledge about your niche.. you told in your post that you will write content regularly (I hope it'll be a unique content), and you'll start with long tail keywords ..

Here's what I think you should do:

target highly traffic keywords (means shorter tail keywords), then build backlinks by writing longer tail keywords article.. If you consistently do that, I hope your website will gain more authority ... selling and writing reviews in your website, you will get more conversion ...
