Hi Warriors

I am sure many of you have thought or have already written tons of ebooks.

I have written quite a few articles for my niche, but I want to write an ebook now but have no idea how go about it.

Please advise.

Thanks

First think of an area in your niche which you can't explain in a single article or blog post. Now break that area into categories: this will be your chapters. As for writing an ebook, a lot of us starts with a simple background. This is a simple information about yourself and what you do. This is also an area to introduce your website. Next is an inspirational message on what your ebook can do. This will convince the reader to stay reading. Then present your chapters. Keep them as lists or steps so the reader will not get bored. Then end with a final message. That's the simplest way I can explain it.

I've never written an ebook, but from the good ones that I've read, I would say use links where appropriate, since that's something that a print book cannot do.

And keep the writing web writing, that means easier on the easy with spaces instead of indents and bullet points or lists like airabongco mentioned.

Hope the weekend is going well. As an author I would ask one question so you set your sites on the reason for the book and the follow-up steps.

What is the goal of the publication?

Do you want the E-Book to sell for income
Do you want the E-Book to promote a previous product
Do you want the E-Book to promote a new product

If you take the first answer, please research about the sales of E-Books. You want to know going in to a project what the realistic results will be for your time and knowledge.

Take a sheet of paper and list the topics you have knowledge of that would interest you. Which of these would make other people curious? How much time do you have to devote to the E-Book? When you are finished it should be something that you don't have second thoughts.

Many people as the time gets later and later rush toward the end. Make a decision if you decide to write it you can see it come to fruition with the results that are at or above your wishes.

Thanks for letting me reply and hope the E-Book breaks new ground!

All great suggestions! Another one I would add is to get it edited to make sure it is clean and crisp...

My suggestion: Write it one weekend, then put it away for a week or two. Don't even look at it. During those 2 weeks, carry around a notebook or voice recorder, and write or record the things you meant to / should have / forgot to put in your book. After a couple of weeks of this "creative remembering," open the book back up and add/correct your work. Then sell it.

I'd recommend these resources, to get you going quickly:

      * Desperate Buyers Only - Alexis Dawes
      * Small Reports Fortune - Jimmy D Brown
      * Jason Fladliens 48hr report (cheapest, and probably the one that will get the project finished quickest).

I'm considering purchasing "Desparate Buyers Only". Has anyone have any luck with it?

        Thanks for any assistance.

I haven't finished my first ebook yet and I'm halfway with it. Based on what I've learned, you have to choose your niche first and make sure that your ebook is something different than your competitors, if you have any. (This is a must if your purpose is to sell it). It would be a waste of time to create something that will not sell in the end. There's one forum warrior (Frank Haywood) who clearly discussed this. I guess you have to looked it yourself because I can't post the link. I'm not yet allowed to do so. (Sorry). Aside from your niche, write something that you know about so that it would be easy for you. Hope this could help.

I did an ebook back in 2003 and I even went as far as copywriting it with the Library of Congress. Great thing that is because in my experience as a legal assistant, paralegal and office manager for about 18 years, I learned when you file that, it makes certain you get Lawyer's Fees granted to you from the other side AUTOMATICALLY. ;o)

K -- so let me get to my point.

I won't ever do an ebook again!

I type 120 wpm and I am getting MORE and more tired of typing.

In fact, I just get on the camera and just jabber. In fact, I'm probably going to be one of THE most incessant video responders on this forum ;D

    Anyways, I've developed an easier.

I had to master it -- but it's an easier way.

    This shortens the whole puzzle.

You get PowerPoint and you master it.

You draw an outline of your program, ebook, whatever, which become your slides.

You then record in Camtasia or whatever just you reading over the slides. I know a number of internet marketers who do their videos this way, with PowerPoint slides running and them just talking through the points.

    Much easier.

In fact, I'm going to be turning all of my salesletters into more video oriented stuff where I can reach out and people can feel me and my passion for the stuff I do, the way I do it... ;D

Great advice given above ^^^. Personally, as I was starting out I def made some errors. BUT, if there was ONE thing I did "flawlessly" (no pun intended.. hehe) was that I wrote, edited and perfected the ebook FIRST. THEN I focused on the marketing and still am.

The reason you want to do ONE thing at a time is because if you love writing as much as I do... then when you start writing your book, that shit will SNOWBALL> And you don't want to stop that momentum... trust me.

For those who have written eBooks before, I'm sure you can identify. My current eBook (Flawless Fitness) is 200pages... that may sound daunting but I never looked at it that way.

I started with one page, then turned into 5, then 10 then 50 and then before I knew it... I was at 268.

... Then I started editing, and eliminating use-less junk and combining concepts and making everything easy to understand etc. until i was left with the most potent and robust book that I could come up with. Viola!

Writing a book was def one of the most fulfilling things I've ever done in my life, so I wish you the best of luck. It's a crazy journey... and you will love every minute of it.

Let us know when your book is done.

    Cheers.

I am curious about the technical side of writing an ebook - I have used basic PDF's for my customers because that's what they told me to do but I have seen others where the pages virtually turn over and are much more graphically interesting - any ideas, links, comments?

Hi Rajeev, I've written over 30 ebooks on a wide variety of subjects, some for my own use, some for clients. How you write the ebook depends a lot of what quality you're after. By that I mean, do you want something that's just okay, or do you want something really earth shattering. I know it sounds good to say that you want great quality all the time, but frankly that's not possible if, like a lot of professional writers, your goal is to get something done in a short space of time, make some money, and then move on to something else.

Quality depends a lot on your market. By that I mean is your book aimed at newbies or folks who know their way around some?

Finally, at least in my experience, internet buyers are usually looking for very specific information. So give it to them. They're very forgiving of not so great writing if the information they wanted is in the book. Some of my favorite ebooks are literally written by people who can barely string a sentence together. But what I learned from the book made me money!

So, take your reader into account, make sure you give them the information you think they need and want, then just try to make the book as clear as you reasonably can.

Whatever you do, don't get hung up being perfect! Just write the book, get someone to read it over for you, then send it on its way! Move swiftly on to the next project.

You really want to know how I, Sean Cruz do it?

Simple really. I usually write down whatever useful information comes to me, whenever it comes to me, and when I think I have enough, I jumble it together, make it look spiffy with not so many grammatical errors and make sure its in sequence.

You can do it however you want to.

First, you need to have a plan. How is your e-book relevant? How is it different and interesting compared to all of the other e-books out there?

Next, have an overall theme of your e-book.

After that, just try to write down anything that comes to mind. Just throw as much stuff you can write down and see what sticks.

After that, sort through what you've written down. Is there a pattern? If so, try to get a structure going for your book. That structure can be like your table of contents.

    Then put a draft together.

Then put the finishing touches to the book.

    Ta-dah!

    Hi
I paid a mentor (John Thornhill) for eBook creation coaching, launched my first eBook 8 months ago and am so pleased with its sales I am working on eBook numbers 2 and 3.
I created 24 videos to pass on what I learned and these are free to anyone who is interested on my blog (see my sig. for the link).
My videos cover everything from choosing a niche, buying your domain, arranging hosting, writing your eBook, buying mini-site graphics, writing your sales letter, uploading everything to your web space, selling through ClickBank and driving traffic.
    Good luck

The best thing to save time is to hire a professional ebook writer. There are a lot of ebook writers available out there who can write and process your ebook complete with a professional ebook cover.

Its worth noting that the average Mac user (Linux too, but there's fewer out there) cannot easily run Windows software so anything that is 'compiled' into an actual software program is not portable any more (techie readers: I know it's possible, it's just not easy for non-techies). With a PDF it can even be put on a mobile phone for reading on the move. You may not worry about the extra millions of machines that cannot access the book any more, but depending upon your ebook's content that small Mac user base could actually be a large chunk of your customers. Especially for products in the area of multimedia for example.

Also, you gain nothing by switching from PDFs other than possibly a small enhancement in security. However even that is partly illusory as most people capable of finding illegal copies of your stuff are probably capable of finding cracked versions or passwords anyway.
I was looking at an ebook software called Ebook Pro 6.0 by Derek Gehl after reading the sales letter I thought this looked like a very good product and just what I was looking for but I think it produces .exe files is that a drawback? would I be better sticking with PDF files

Does anyone recommend a good ebook software similar to ebook pro 6.0 but maybe with PDF files

    Thanks
    William

Once you get started, writing an eBook is easier than you think.

Settling on a subject is very difficult but once you do the rest is easier. First break down you subject into sections, then into subsection to give a framework that will chage a hundred times, but it is a framework to get started. Once you start writing, the gaps will quickly fill in.

I must warn you to be prepared for writing the sales page. This takes time and effort, writing and rewriting, then submitting it to the forum only to be told it is rubbish.

Then the masive problem of getting sales. Getting traffic or somebody to promote it. To me this is the hard part, particularly if you are on your own.

I am not being negative here, but be aware in advance that these are barriers to overcome. Writing the eBook is easy and enjoyable, in fact I got so carried away that I just did not know where to stop. And even now I still have ideas.

So, take thing and define your subject, create a framwork, and pre-think of the problems ahead. Please write it, as you will regret not doing so.

    Gordon.

Great suggestions, its probably best to start thinking of ideas in your niche which you can't explain in a one article or a simple blog post. You can elaborate further by breaking down your niche into chapters of categories, by separating with the articles you written. You can begin with an introduction in your ebook about yourself, describing your niche and your specfic knowledge of your niche, where you can place a link for your website. Then introduce what you ebook will do and how it will assist your readers, which will get their attention and keep them glued to the rest of the content. Then list a index or chapters page. And then use your articles for your chapters and add a final message at the end as a summary. Hope this helps!
