I recieve $10 from a client for whom I had done an artile on !st January. Just 10 minutes later I recieved this email:

A review of recent transactions indicates that you might have received a
payment that the PayPal account holder did not authorise.

To protect you from problematic transactions, we sometimes request
additional information about PayPal payments.

We need more information about this transaction. Please log in to your
PayPal account, click the "Resolution Centre" tab, and provide more
information by 08/01/2012.

We recommend that you do not post the item until our investigation is
complete. If you've already posted the item, please log in and let us know
where you posted it.

We have placed a temporary hold on the funds until we complete our
investigation.

If you need to provide information by fax, click and print a cover sheet:
https://www.paypal.com/in/cgi-bin/?cmd=_complaint_resolve_tracking_fax&cid=PP-001-610-732-278.

Please fax proof of postage or proof of refund to +1-402-537-5760.

I contacted the client and he said that the credit card on the Paypal account had expired and will get this resolved with Paypal.

Today I have recieved another email from Paypal:

Here it is:

As you know, we recently requested some additional information about Case

Please help us find out whether the sender authorised this transaction by
providing us with information by 08/01/2012.

will be reversed.

We advise you not to post any items to the buyer until we find out whether
this transaction was authorised.

Thank you for your cooperation.

Thanks,

PayPal

I have tried to get it resolved through my account but it asks for the Client's mailing address which I don'ty have. I just want to know that is my account at risk of getting shut down. I can't even contact Paypal as I am not in US and they don't have a local number for my country.

I don't think they will shut the account down, but you should try to get it resolved before the deadline or you will lose your $10. I would contact the client and give them an update. Also, if you log into your account you should be able to find a "contact us" link on the right hand side of the page where you can send an email from. They want the address b/c they want you to prove that you actually sold something. As far as I know there are no rules about selling information products through a paypal account, so make sure to let them know that you don't have an address as it is not something that you have shipped. Make sure to document all of your communication with them too. Hope you can get it resolved!

Edit sorry I see you have already tried to resolve it through your account. Have you tried just sending a generic help request? You might also try when they ask for the address putting something like "Not applicable". I looked up the customer service number and this is what I found: 1-888-221-1161. I don't know if it will work from Asia, but it's worth a try.

When life gives you lemons, at least you don't get scurvy.

Thanks a lot. I put N/A in the address field and it worked. I have got it resolved. I highly appreciate your useful advice.

Sounds like there worried the other party used a illegit method to pay with, does not sound like anything there going to look at you as being the person in the wrong. I get this sometimes, you will probably lose that 10 bucks though.

I am ok with losing $10 rather than losing my Paypal account.

I've been getting a number of payments for an ebook (different buyers) where I got similar follow-up emails from PayPal.

I've talked to them several times, and I'm trying to figure out how to set up my paypal (or shopping cart) to get rid of those things...

It's pretty scary, and while they've been very nice about it at PayPal, I'm not sure how many more of those they'll put up with!

      Scary.
