Is Content Really King ?

I was watching some interesting videos on content and the internet in 2012. The most interesting statement and fact

"All the content , from beginning of man kind until 2003, is now produced every 48 hours"

This stuck with me and makes me think that content cant be king because there is to much, no wonder kids have A.D.D

your thoughts ?
#content #king

    Hi Fraser,

Personally I don't think it's about the quantity of the content but the quality.....

Sure there is a lot of content out there....but is is any good?

Not many marketers produce good quality content that gets the cogs turning and the light bulbs switching on

    Regards

    Chris

P.S. With regards to A.D.D.......its always been around.....we used to call it hyperactive

Content will always be king. Most internet marketers fail because they simply go online and produce junk (no offense intended).

You have to provide value if you are to stick around for the long term in business. When you consider that there are thousands (or millions) competing for the success you desire, setting yourself apart is absolutely crucial.

If you produce quality content on the internet, you will develop a terrific reputation and, along with this, a terrific looking bank account.

I must agree that QUALITY content is king. In fact, I keep preaching this to everyone i make contact with -- Hopefully not in vain. See below...

      http://www.warriorforum.com/main-int...t-writers.html

I'll keep on with my rap until they understand.

There is still a MONSTER load of junk on the net, and so many people holding onto the idea that tons of trash will improve their positions. At least its improving it seems, as search engines become smarter.

      Let's see in future.

i do agree quality content will always trump crap content , but like @businessguru said about building a reputation online, its not all about content. Content is big part of any successful site but at the same time there is so much crap out there alot of users tune alot of content out even if its good and i think this will be more of the case going forward. Content is not piece of the pie but its not the whole thing

You can build relationships through better customer support, faster delivery and personalized messages that go with products, personalized thank you letters and a million other things.

Better menus, usability and all that stuff doesn't matter nearly as much as forming that human(-ish) connection with your customers.

That's just what I believe in anyways...

Thanks for checking in @BIGMIKE i agree with you, experience is everything but their experience is how good you are at building a relationship and offering value = which then leads in to having good content

People in the media make grandiose statements like that to sound like they have something interesting to report on when they really don't.

Whoever wrote that is probably equating "content" with "bytes of information." When you consider that like a billion people are on Facebook now and hundreds of millions more are on Twitter, Tumblr, etc, well then yeah, there's probably more content coming out every day now than there was in a few thousand years of human history or whatever.

    But consider that,

    - for a lot of human history, there weren't really that many people to create content

    - before the printing press, all content had to be written by hand

    - the "content" that comes out of Facebook today is a substitute for conversation, not for books or articles

... Then I think you'll see how the figure you cited about the epic growth in content is, erm... a little misleading.

And anyway, even if marketing content really was blowing up exponentially like that every day, content would STILL be king, because all marketing STARTS with content. You simply don't sell to a large number of people without content. It's how people interact with your business when there's nobody there to speak to them one on one.

I agree with most of what Andy wrote. Sure, there is a ton of "content" piling up on the internet... but how much of it is the kind of information that can compete with real, high quality material for attracting potential visitors and buyers? You also have to consider that while there are more people producing content due to the internet, there are also far more people reading that same content due to the internet.

Ultimately, both people and search engines are looking for quality content. I agree that a good user experience is critical (as Big Mike mentions) but quality content is going to get people to your site first and foremost. It's then your job to convert them.

The entire world is changing --- and quickly. In the past we had an agricultural society which then changed to an industrial society. Now we are in the Information age. There is more information produced than ever before -- so quality content is important. But, as people we still all want relationships. That is why people brand themselves. Readers respond to people - not robots writing articles.

The king is that which controls the flow
    of communication.

Content isn't king - the traffic controller
    is.

And the traffic controller controls traffic
    via links.

Calling content king is like saying the
    puppet makes the master dance.

That aside the Internet has a LONG way
to go in dealing with information
efficiently. I'd worry less about producing
content and more about solving this
    problem.

The model everyone is following is
garbage. It died six years ago.

    Twitter comes closest.

When people stop writing crap articles
to answer simple questions, and start
using something closer to 140 characters
to get the job done they'll have achieved
    something in the right direction.
