Wordpress vs Wix -- Which is Better?

I came across Wix.com recently, and was wondering if anyone is actually using this platform. Also, how does it measure up in comparison with Wordpress?

I know its not open source, which is limiting, but it seems really SEO/user-friendly and aesthetically pleasing. Thinking of testing it out.

Any feedback on this?

    User-friendly and aesthetically pleasing? Perhaps.

    SEO friendly? Perhaps not as much, given these are flash websites. In this case, Wordpress wins hands down.

    I would definitely go with Wordpress. I know some people using WIX for Facebook pages... but if you are in SEO- Wordpress is my choice

      I've always used Wordpress myself, and am currently using it now -- just wondering if anyone has some actual experience building wix sites.

      I agree.. i have been using wordpress since day one and love it.. i actually tried Wix out last year.. didnt work out so well.. but yeah.. for SEO purposes. Wordpress all the way my friend!

        I use Wix (sometimes - not for most of my "main money sites"). I like it and recommend it.

        The thing to be aware of is that Wix offers two entirely different sorts of sites. One sort - for which they're most well known - is "Flash" sites, which everyone (including Wix themselves) says are pretty much second-rate for most SEO considerations. These can be very attractive, easy-to-build sites, for people not that interested in gathering search-engine traffic.

        But they also now offer HTML-5 sites, which are no different, in principle, from any other sort of HTML site for all SEO purposes.

        All that said, you'd need a "reason" not to want to use self-hosted Wordpress, given its ready availability of coaching, support, advice, training videos, plugins, other extras and so on. (My own reason is that I dislike Wordpress a lot and find it extremely difficult to use - but whatever your reason is, it seems to me that you'd need one, to use Wix in preference).

    I haven't used Wix, but I have used Weebly. Very easy to use and a nice system. But the problem with all of these systems is you don't have control.

    If the service goes down or raises prices, you are out of luck.

    With WordPress, the software is free and you can host it yourself to retain total control. And there are thousands of plugins with more being developed all the time to extend the functionality.

    So I recommend sticking with WordPress and hosting it yourself.
