Can a dvd be uploaded to a download page or website

Hello,

I have a dvd that I would like to offer as a FREE sample of a product that I have.

Initially I was going to send it by Post... but It may be also a good idea to offer it as a free download... or at least part of it.

I wondered if it is possible to do this without special software.

I did try uploading it to my site but it was taking a very long time..Its a 2 hour dvd.

I wondered if there is an easier way.

I assume it could be edited and split into parts...

I am assuming that it may have to be converted into another form before it can be edited and uploaded.

I wondered If there is an easy or FREE way to do this, could anyone be good enough to advise..

Many thanks

I would edit into smaller samples and have a sample available for download stating that quality is diminished for ease of download and that DVD quality is better and will be sent by mail

    Hi Blade runner,

I am not really sure how you go about splitting the dvd file.
Or how say you can take a part or parts of it that I may want to use as the sample.

I would assume you need editing software.

Also do you know if you need to convert it into another formatt.

Or maybe do you know if it would be possible to use say the free version of camtasia to copy and edit it...

If I can create a part sample of the vidoe I could also post it on youtube etc

    Thank you

    Cheers dowsp

You can try creating an ISO image of the dvd and then make a compressed (.zip or .rar) file, then split this file into parts and upload the individual parts.

As Valdor says, you can go the ISO route and let people download it and burn it themselves.

This software will create the ISO file for you, as well as let people create DVD from your ISO image: The Official ImgBurn Website (And it's free. I have used it so this comes recommended.) It's pretty straightforward, but I'd still create a "how to" for those needing to burn your DVD to keep the intimidation factor down.

    Hi Valdor , Troy.

Unfortunately as yet I am not yet fully educated on what the files are when dealing with dvds / video...

But I seem to recall reading that you can find the existing dvd file in whats known as the Video-TS folder..

I am not yet sure what an ISO image is or if I have the convert the existing file of the dvd into that formatt some how... Troy refers to IMGburn site that
will do it and for fortunately for free..

I can understand compressing a file and some how splitting the file, maybe in winzip or winrar..then uploading each part to a download page

But I am not sure if ISO file is just a series of still images as opposed to actual
running video if was was to try and add a sample on my site like a youtube video that can instantly be played..as opposed to just been a free download.

Ideally I want to include the two..

One to be instantly viewed like youtube... then further parts to be downloadable from my site on a download page link.

I suspect the harder part is converting it from the actual dvd into another formatt that it can be created into a youtube type video. and not just a stills type of image video.

    If this is possible..

    Thanks

      ISO:

      YOU:
      1. Take your DVD place it in your DVD drive.
      2. Use IMGBURN The Official ImgBurn Website to create ISO file.
      3. Distribute ISO file.

      YOUR AUDIENCE:
      1. Download ISO file (1 file)
      2. Place blank DVD into DVD burner.
      3. Use IMGBURN The Official ImgBurn Website to create DVD from ISO file.
      4. Done

Think of an ISO as a file that contains ALL of the raw data of your DVD (no need to know file formats, folders, etc.)

The ISO is used to create an exact duplicate for your end users.

ISO is an exact image of the DVD / CD so when someone burns the ISO image to disk it will create an exact copy the disk the image came from including menus chapters subtitles etc.
Just do a search for ISO image and it should be made clear, dont try to understand all the tech jargon to understand what it is.
I use nero for disk burning and with that if you stick a dvd in you can just get it to create an iso you dont need to mess with files or folders its a system to copy the whole disk.

As for sticking a part of the dvd on youtube there are programs that will convert dvd to avi etc.. and some of the better ones will let you just convert a part of the film to avi so you would select the part you want to put on youtube and convert that then just upload it as normal.

    Hi Troy, Valdor,

The dvd burner will certainly be VERY useful to use to take actual direct copies and save me having to pay someone else to copy them..

Initially I was not sure if the img burn software was just to create actual copies or if it could be used to also edit parts of the dvd to allow me to create into youtube type vidoes.

Valdor.. I think that you are describing what I was looking for..

I recall now yes I would have to convert the dvd file into an AVI formatt..

Do you know if there is any free software that allows you to do this or a cheap version that you can recommend.

I assume though more than likely I would have to purchase it and it will be quite expensive.

This is more what I am trying to acheive.

    regards

I just wondered if anyone has used one of the Free dvd to avi software
packages that you may find on google.

I am just wondered if they are safe and which may be the better one to choose.

I am unable to post a link as yet as I am a previous low poster and have to have 15 posts before I can include any links.

I found a few Free Dvd to video Avi software packages on google and also a few videos on youtube on how to go about it..

BUT I am not sure which may be the best..

One video that I watched which suggested a free application looked ok except it suggested that it can take upto 2 hours to convert the dvd to avi
and edit it for the likes of youtube..

I wonder if thats just an old version and how long it takes a more modern
    version in comparison...

I downloaded one package from google search, but I could not get it to work.

If anyone has used a free version that is quicker than 2 hours to convert an average 2 hr dvd... I would appreciate any advice.
