Do you worry about the future of Affiliate Marketing?

I'm seriously considering going at this full time, but the only worry for me is future changes/laws.

Obviously the nature of Internet Marketing is change, and you have to be able adapt to stay in this game. But what about websites like Clickbank and Commission Junction, do you think these sites will always be around? Will online affiliate marketing always be around?

I guess the new EU cookie law has got me thinking, plus the fact I've had previous money making methods which no longer work.

    The whole business changes every year, and even more often, but I would bet my ass that nothing serious will happen to affiliate marketing... this business concept exist for many years, and it's just adopted by Internet... some things and regulations could change but the concept will stay the same... it seems to me that Clickbank, CJ, Amazon, Google, etc won't disappear any time soon...

    I think Affiliate Marketing will never die...

    There's always be new affiliate website comes out with new concept, new approach, something like: jvzoo or digiresults.

    Also you can always be affiliate outside the affiliate network. There's thousand website out there, that provide their own affiliate programs.

    So, as long as people still need other people to help them promote their products... affiliate marketing will never die

    My 2 cents....

    I don't worry about affiliate marketing as a business model....

    But I do worry about how it's being done at the moment.

    There are too many people simply spamming their offers all over the place, not providing much value, and causing people to lose faith on what they see online.....

    Too many people enter the game thinking about the quick $$$ rather than the long term benefits of running a stable business.

    Perhaps the question you should ask yourself is....Are you in it for the quick $$$ or are you looking for something long term?

    Quick $$$= Doomed (Or at least a slow painful death)
    Long term= Build relationships and people will love you for it and the $$$ follows....

    Changes will always happen in business in general.

    That's why it's important to have a solid foundation in marketing, selling, accounting, advertising, customer support and other basics.

    You'll have to apply the principles in different contexts as the years go by... or else you're done.

    Recently, I do ... just a little. In the online forms in which it pays my mortgage etc., yes ...

    Almost 100% of my income is from affiliate marketing, so I can hardly not worry about it at all.

    I do think it's very unlikely suddenly to "come a cropper", but still ... I do sometimes wonder whether I should take some time out of building my affiliate marketing business to write some books for Kindle, or just to sell on Amazon, or even on ClickBank, or whatever ... :confused:

      Alexa...

      I think that you should be considering those avenues whether or not you worry about affiliate marketing or not...

      If you start to diversify now.....you could have steady income from your own products in a short space of time, which means if it does go pear shaped....you've covered your behind

      This is exactly the path I decided upon late in 2011. I've been "playing", if you like, with Kindle for a couple of years (probably longer), but until the last quarter of 2011, I'd never done anything beyond uploading books and leaving them to get on with it..

      But recently, with a feeling of uncertainty about the long term viability of keeping all my eggs in the IM basket, I've done a lot of research into much more serious Kindle authorship.

      By researching some of the top selling Kindle authors, I've gleaned a number of very simple methods they are using to put their books in front of hundreds of thousand of "eyes", AND I've recently bought a WSO by Jonny Andrews, which is, I believe one of the best investments I've ever made.

      Because of the changes I've already implemented to the books I already have online, I've already made more in sales in November and December than I had in the preceding eighteen months..

      I love writing and I find Kindle to be addictive. I've already decided to diversify and devote a lot more of my time to it in 2012..

        Kindle is going to be big in 2012 (Already was massive in 2011!) and one thing for sure is that Amazon is just getting started with this......

        The fact that kindle is around 4000 times bigger than Clickbank in terms of people buying from it is massive...only problem I see with kindle is a lack of flexibility when it comes to running affiliate programs.....

        But i suppose something as got to give...

        LOL ... "great minds think alike": ever since some of John Locke's publicity about a year ago (I first saw him mentioned on Joe Konrath's blog) I've been "following the story" and investigating a little further.

    IF anything more stringent rules on how things are done online are coming (for the bad) but one thing it will do is make a dent in the amount of people who set things up trying to make a quick $/£/¢ leaving a cleaner area for people to make a living and get things back up to normal.

    Its just the same a few years ago when accessibility was the buzz word in web design it killed off 100s of bedroom designers as they didn't know what they where doing or what it meant and the industry recovered, then they figured it out and it hit a low again.

    Any business has turbulent times and is forced to adopt and change with the times the ones that embrace are the ones that stick around. IMO nothing to worry about.

    "Affiliate Marketing" has been around long before the Internet. Affiliate marketing is no different than independent resellers of a product. The internet just made it easier for more people to partake. As long as there are businesses that need products sold, affiliates will have a place.

    Online affiliates will always be around, and I definitely see a bright future for them. As far as I know, more and more companies are finding it more lucrative to have affiliates rather than sales employees who they have to provide with salaries, commissions, benefits etc. Affiliates are willing to do the same job for just commission. Plus, the number of people using the internet to buy stuff is continuing to grow exponentially. The future looks bright, for those who keep their knowledge and affiliate marketing tricks up to date.

    The only concern for all of us is....how to minimize the strength of Google so that she is not the tyrant that rules the roost.

      Affiliate marketing is a model. Treat it as a business. Create a plan...whatever that plan is and then hold yourself accountable to it.

        Affiliate marketing will not die, that's for sure. Online shopping will go up in the next years so AM will also grow.
        And maybe Facebook traffic will be as good as it is now Google traffic for making sales. I have not tried FB or twitter traffic but is something I will do this year.

    Websites like CJ, Clickbank and of course Amazon are not going anywhere.

    These guys have been around since pretty much the beginning of the interent.

    And think about it, online buying traffic is only going 1 way, and that's up!

    You need to think Globally... developing countries, such as China and India are huge markets right now, and getting bigger.

    Plus, the way we access these sites and this information is always getting easier.

    Check out the next time you're in an airport, especially in the States... count the amount of people with an Ipad or similar tablet/pam pilot.

    I was in Hong Kong recently, nearly everyone on the MTR (subway) has their head buried in their mobile device... and you can get wifi on the MTR.

    So... affiliate marketing is going nowhere... but up.

      I'm more worried about piracy of digital products... Piracy is a HUGE problem here in China.

      Physical products are fine... but, I'm thinking of developing some digital products for this market... but I'm sort of put off by the level of piracy.

      There's a different mentality to it here, than back in the west... sure, piracy goes on back in the west... but not nearly on the scale here in China.

      I can't really see anyway of protecting a digital product.... I guess you just have to take the hit.

    There may be ways to read the tea leaves so to speak but really the only thing you can do is jump in and do your best....

    Did Detroit ever see foreign competition for cars when it happened? And when the competition happened did not detroit become better?

    What about 5 guys hamburgers? aren't there enough hamburger places?

    If you believe in it just do it...if you want job security and a steady paycheck get a civil service job with all the union stuff that are killing states right now

    I think affiliate marketing will stay around for a long long time. It's a huge part in some of the biggest internet companies' business's. Sure they may tweak their rules, but totally stop affiliate marketing isn't likely.

    affiliate marketing? No worry about it, because even lots of factors is trying to "fight" affiliate marketing, but it'll always exist, because marketing will always be a part of any business. Even if google penalized it, there's still ways to do aff marketing.

    If not Clickbank and CJ, there would still be some good sites which will provide you products to market. This is not an asset of internet but is a requirement. So don't panic. You will always have good products to promote.

    I agree with the posters above that affiliate marketing is here to stay.

    However, I also think that affiliate marketing is a game that will change a lot over the years, and for that reason, I recommend learning and digesting as many core principles as you can, instead of relying dogmatically on tactics.

    Affiliate marketing will always be around in one way or another. Affiliate marketing is really just a fancy new term for word of mouth marketing.

    Its basically you just recommending great products and services that you've used and benefited from.

    So whether or not affiliate marketing as we know it today does the way of the dinosaur, another form will always emerge.

    Worst case scenario, you can always hit up JVs or businesses yourself and ask for a share in the profits based off how much traffic you can send.

    No biggie, don't sweat it. Quit livin' in fear and take massive action. You're missing out as of right ...now! lol
