I'm creating my first ad campaign for my copywriting service, and would appreciate your advice :)

Hello folks,

This is my first post, so my apologies if I missed something somewhere. I did scan over the first page on this forum, and looked in the "all-in-one" forum for what I wanted, but couldn't find it.

Besides, I'm sort of brain dead from all the info I've seen on this site

Ok, let me get to it.

My plan is to use Adwords to drive traffic to my site. On the site I'll have a Squeeze Page (I think that's the right term, a page where someone can opt-in and get a free report). I want to use the report as bait.

That's the easy part.

The hard part is not getting overwhelmed about how to set this up! I'll try to go through the questions in order, but my brain is a bit scrambled right now, so please forgive me if things get messy!

Oh, and you probably already know this, but just in case you don't...don't feel obligated to try to answer every question (although it'd be nice if you could). Just answer what you can, and I'm sure others will fill in the rest.

I'll try to separate them based on the type of question

Where should the ad take them

  1. Should the ad bring the customer to my home page, with an offer of the free report in the sidebar, or should I create the squeeze page and send the customer directly there?
  2. If I send them to a squeeze page, should I create a domain just for that page?
  3. Redirect to a "thank-you" page, or take them right back to the homepage?
Setting up delivery

  1. Is it as simple as using Aweber for email and EJunkie to store the file, or does it get more complicated? Are both services fairly easy to use, even for the non-technical among us?
  2. Would I need to know any HTML to set up buttons, or to make sure the file went to the right place?
  3. Is Aweber easy to search? I'm thinking of creating an offer, and limiting it to seven days. Could I plug the person's address into Aweber to make sure they signed up within seven days?
How much selling to do on the page?

  1. Should I create a full sales page for the free report, or just put a page with a headline, a few bullets, and a place to opt-in?
  2. Would it be better to make an offer in the report, or email it to the person after a certain amount of time?
  3. What would you recommend to test on the opt-in page?
Tracking folks after they sign up:

  1. What would I need to tell me what ad a person came from, what opt-in page they came from, or, even more importantly, how many people I converted? Is that strictly an Adwords thing, or would I need a Wordpress plug-in?
  2. How often would you follow up with email? I'm thinking of once a week, but I haven't even finished the report yet, much less a series of emails! Trying hard not to get overwhelmed
Phew!

Ok, I THINK that's it for now. Let me know if you think I left something out.

Oh, and thanks so much for reading, and double thanks for any feedback.

I think this place may become my regular hone on the interwebs

I honestly think you might be over-complicating things for yourself here. All the answers you seek are most likely already here, in this forum, in someone's post or other.

Try using the Search function. Choose the Advanced option and choose your keywords carefully. Don't expect to find the answers instantly, but with time you will, if you stay patient and persevere.

The Search function of this forum is perhaps the most powerful IM tool available - anywhere on this planet, but you have to learn how to use it properly.

Aren't we all? Welcome. I do think, as John observes above, that the forum's search function can be your friend, provided you put some time and effort into learning how to use it (most people don't).

It's the right term, but not the right approach, because you'll have problems there, with AdWords. Google doesn't like traffic being directed from an AdWords ad to a squeeze page. They might well accept it, without at first noticing, but I understand it can easily lead to problems later.

    Home page with an opt-in.

For your own purposes, in general, you may want to split-test both. But for AdWords, a home-page with an opt-in rather than a squeeze page.

I think it's always better to redirect to a "thank you" page to tell them what to expect, now they've opted in, and to check their "junk" folder just in case their email client software directs your first email there, and so on. And/or to help them handle "confirmed opt-in" if you're using it.

You can make it as simple as that, if you want to. Or a bit more complicated if you prefer. (You may not even need e-Junkie for it.)

Aweber has a real learning curve, for non-techies like you and me. People who will tell you it's "trivially easy" just don't understand non-techies. :p

Your other questions under that heading are too techie for me.

Normally the latter, not a full "sales page". It's good to "incentivize" and "promote" the opt-in, but no need to go overboard and sound like an insurance salesman about it ...

I normally include one, making it look like an afterthought. On no account let it look as though that was the purpose of sending them the free report.

The actual purpose of sending them the free report is to ensure that they expect, await, open and read your subsequent emails, and you should write it accordingly while also fulfilling whatever it promised.

Your AdWords account and/or "Google Analytics", normally, I think.

Good luck! Relax. Breathe slowly. Digest, and search, at your leisure.
