INTERNET MARKETING

It took me 2 years before I really cracked the internet marketing code.
It's okay. I know many others who took even longer before they started making real money.
It's okay. Keep your day job and just keep learning and experimenting and tweaking. Spend at least an hour at it every day.

Everyone likes to make it seem like it was easy for them, maybe it is for some, but not for most.

Internet marketing is a craft, a skill and its professionals are paid very handsomely.

Law School is three years. Med School is 4. There's no shame in stinking it up for a while before real money comes in. It's a walk in the park compared to going through those two professional schools (I know I went though one of them).

Find a good mentour (I'm here to help in any way I can..though I too am still learning and growing all the time).

Even if you lose money for two years the light at the end of the tunnel when you finally get it is very bright.

Just keep plugging away. That's my advice.

How about the WF private forum? I think it is a good place to start, both for newbies and pros alike.

IMC is also good. Haven't used sitesell so cannot say.

Hi,

This is a great thread!

It's really down to earth and realistic and that's what's needed to counter-balance all of the hype, BS etc. I like this stuff, it's helpful. It can feel very lonely if you're up against it and everyone else is shoving noughts on the end of everything, talking about their turnover as if it was profit - and the rest that goes on.

There's a lot of good points for newbies here but one I'd pick up on is this by Henrysy -

My advice to newbies, hold on to your dream - and your wallet. There's so much temptation around here to spend one's hard earned cash to how to make money online reports, the ultimate guide to 6 figure income ebooks, etc. I've ordered a lot of these reports in the past, some are really good and some are also horrible enough to make one feel like a sucker. Consider yourself lucky if you don't have much cash to spend as that alone could have saved you from losing money on crappy reports that you were tempted to order due to their mouth watering sales letters.

I'd like to add to this that because many of us go down this route of buying a lot of reports, there are two pitfalls to look out for -

a) you can 'get into the habit' of expecting other people to give you answers in products so much that you can forget that the most powerful tool you posess is between your ears. No one can give you a blueprint that is guaranteed to work for you, to suit your abilities and interests.

You HAVE to apply your brain to whatever you study. So don't forget it's there because it's more valuable than all of the ebooks on the net - and unlike the ebooks, the ideas it produces are original and suited to you.

b) studying other peoples' work (their reports AND their sites/systems) is vital...BUT...it's even more important to understand the raw learning power of putting pages on the net, studying what happens, making changes, again studying what happens etc.

There are still MANY hidden techniques and gaps to exploit that are NOT in any of the ebooks you can buy. These are the gold that you can uncover and profit from for a long time, possibly forever. And the best way to find them is to do things, put stuff out there and see what happens. Don't worry about it being polished.

I have put sites out there and then been distracted by something, then noticed a few days later they had made me money - and I had barely started working on them - they were gruesome looking! But once you see this, it is very inspiring and makes you realise that an usused domain is a marketing sin.

There's a deep meaningful truth to this (bolded). At times it feels like some strange worldly power ensures that this lesson happens (and I don't really do strange worldly powers). It might not apply to everyone, but for myself and many I know, it seems as though you HAVE to hit rock bottom and then fight your way back before you are ready to handle success.

It's like if you 'give' someone a bunch of money, they will more than likely get rid of it. If they have to go through blood, sweat and tears to get it, often they use it wisely to make the next lot arrive with less b,s & t.

You can try and stealthily navigate around this lesson, but I have found that however hard you try, 'something' will pull you back and make you suffer before you can enjoy the fruits of your labour. The positive way to view this is to remember that when it gets really tough and nothing seems to be working, instead of being down, be up because you have reached that stage. It takes work to get to the 'bottom'

But as long as you fight on, the only way from there is up. It's part of the process, it's a necessary part, so ideally we should embrace the challenge rather than letting it make us lose hope. It's that type of area where you have to be strong in business. And online, if you find an idea that hasn't been done before, so therefore there is no benchmark to aim for and no proof - you have to have that belief that the money will come - and you have to have it much longer than just the day when the idea is born!

Yep, nobody ever said (or should have said) that IM was easy. It takes a lot of time and a lot of work to learn everything and start being successful. I guess I would still be considered a newbie since I've only been doing this about 2.5 months now. I've made a few hundred bucks, but I still don't consider myself "successful." With more time and work though, I hope to learn even more and start getting consistent money. To all the other newbies, keep your head up and good luck!

  Thats the problem, they do! When you click here, and click there, and read this and that, it all sounds the same - "Make Money Today!" - BUT remember that this is ONLY that person trying to sell you something, not sell you something that will help you!
  
  Use or develop a sharp mind to question everything you read, and you will possess a much clearer understanding of what is actually necessary and what isnt. The biggest issue for newbies, I believe, has been mentioned on this forum many times, and that is "information overload".
  
  Take ONE idea or concept, put it into practise and work it. If it succeeds well done, and if not, well you have created your first "subject" for a simple product, about things you have tried, and things that have failed, or succeeded. I mean, if you have tried 5 things that have not worked for you, and you believe that you did everything that was stated to do, write about it, and compile a report for others who may be following in your footsteps.
  
  Mentors are good, if you know that they know what they are talking about, and this can be established from reading thier posts (if they are located on this forum) or firing a couple of test projects their way.
  
  It is a process, and one that can take time. There are however those who are always going to have the resources, luck or contacts to fast track it to the big time, and we should not model ourselves on these people unless we have the same resources they have access to.

  I've been at IM for about a month and a half and I can definitely relate to your perspective on things. I think the best thing for newbies to do is to take action no matter how likely it is for them to fail. You will learn from your mistakes and you will grow from every action you take.

If you give up, you're guaranteed to fail. Which may be okay if you're really not into giving things a good go. IMing is not for everyone.
However, quitting because you hit the bumpy patches in the beginning?
No.

I mean, why quit, really? If you have some time and interest, you can
seek out methods of testing your skills without going cash-backwards.
Thanks to web 2.0, there are many ways to test markets with no cash investment. If you find what you're testing on a small scale works, then leverage and scale up.

If it truly doesn't interest you, no harm in walking away.
But quitting just because it's bumpy?

No.

  Yeah it is not easy to get going. Heck we were literally down to talking to the repo man less than a week before our first successful launch. By then we had maxed out all credit cards and spent pretty much everything we had in savings... we were at the bottom. It takes guts and real work to get it going to make a full-time living from home but it sure can be rewarding.

  Internet marketing is a business, and to be successful with IM you have to treat it as a business. Do your research, develop a plan, and take action. Never let defeat stop you ... keep trying. When you least expect it, thats when you will have that 'breakthrough.'

  We will never know what is the results if we never try and do our best. I believe that education is the powerful tool. Education through mentors or self learning is the way to get closer to IM. Just don't give up and remember "failure is the mother of success". Learn from failure and experiences would drive us to the path of success.

  I think it is so important for newbies not to get discouraged. IM is not as easy as the gurus would lead you to believe, but it is very real and very possible. You just need to be determined, and always push forward!

  Yup. A lot of people give up when they find out 1) It can take a while to make any money and/or 2) It actually involves work and dedication.
  But for those who are determined, they'll stick with it and it will pay off in the end.

  A majority of the people think that they can jump into IM (or any business for that matter) without proper education n learning..Which is y perhaps this forum was created in the 1st place..A great platform for learning for IM newbies or advanced marketers alike. I think those who quit this buisness are the ones who didn't take the time to understand this business better or didnt seek proper mentorship.

  IM can be 'easy' if you know the methodology and work to a step-by-step plan. But as i've said on here many times, 'easy' does not mean that you don't have to put in some hard work and commitment.
  
  My newbie subscribers are told from the outset that if they follow what i'm showing them and actually take action they will have the best chance of success. And of course glowing testimonials come in, but always from those people who are actually 'doing' what they are taught.

  I have to admit it was easier back in the days to make money online.
  
  An experienced marketer could jump in a niche and completely dominate with a few weeks if there was even any competition to begin with.
  
  When I say completey dominate a niche I mean exactly that. You could make a killing within weeks with little effort.
  
  Within my first 6 months online in 1997 I was making over $10,000 month (net not gross).
  
  These days when you enter a new niche there is most typically hard core competion mostly from exeperinced marketers who started out when I did.
  
  The game has changed unless you can learn from an experienced marketer.

  Totally agree...do not give up and be consistent with the efforts. An hour a day with specific goals of things to do and get accomplished.
  
  I was on info overload as a newbie and then settled down. I do not have time to do keyword research, investigate niches..Sitesell was it. Best thing I did. Been at this for just a year now, Adsense income is steadily increasing and am starting to sell some affiliate stuff.
  
  Nothing major yet...but 5 years from now? And that's what is is all about..a business.

  Getting yourself too deeply involved in your business, ending up drained and stressed can be depressing too.
  
  Take care of yourself.
  
  Take a break when you need it to rejuvenate yourself.
  
  Spend time with families at night and do something together.
  
  Get recharge and your business will be able to last longer becos you can last longer.

  Everyone says that if you work a plan and stick to a plan, you will make it and begin to see the fruits of your labour! But when you're down there looking up at the fruit hanging from the trees and you just can't figure out how to get to them, you simply HAVE to believe that one day you will figure it out! And there in lays the rub of it, keeping the faith when you're down in the dirt!

  I made $5000 my first try and lost it all...I still didnt give up, hell no!
  Keep going at it and you will make money.
  
  Altough I would love to tell you guys were to start, its more complicated then that cause we all have different goals and we are all in different situations.
  Some newbies need cash fast, some are in it for the long run and to make millions(like me).
  
  You just never give up and be prepared to spend hours and hours and hours and hours and hours of reading material on internet marketing.

  Hi all, this is my 100th post and I thought it a little ironic that this is the topic I was reading at the time Back on the 16th of June, I was about to call it all quits, and those of you who may know already, I posted to this effect in the "old forum" - here is the link to that post...
  
  The Warrior Forum - BANKRUPT and goodbye...
  
  I was at wits end, and although I had some very serious persoanl issues going on, I decided to end my IM experience. At that time, I had been on WF for a few short weeks, with no great input, and was bombarded with sooooo much information about what to do and what not to do, that it was like trying to learn 10 years of schooling all in a day! I was trying to generate "quick" success to clear up my personal mess, and I learned very quickly that this was the wrong course of action.
  
  As you will see from this old post, within a very short space of time, I had more than 2900 views on this topic, and 100 replies, although some of these were obviously my own, and the thread made the "Best Of" thread as well. It seemed there were a lot of people who were interested in the whole concept of giving up.
  
  Jump to today.... and 2 months later, I am still here, have now posted my 100th post, and have built and published a site that offers my very first product. I am communicating daily with at least 4 WF members and we are working on other products, sites and projects, keeping me busy and focussed on the future. And you know what - I still have not made one sale from my site, BUT I am okay with that, because I know that the hard work is done. I know that I can take ONE peice of information and run with it, before moving to the next, and I know now that this is the only way to do it.
  
  FORGET what the gurus tell you - their only motivation is to sell you something, that you don't really need. Where I have found the most rewarding of results, is in the communication with other newbies, and when we all put our heads together, the results come. This is what fuelled an idea that we will launch very soon and maybe, just maybe, you will be able to benefit from it.
  
  In the meantime, if you ahve the time, take a look at that old post and see how someone who is almost on the verge of collapse, can take the heartfelt advice of other more experienced people, and continue the journey, evan when all seems lost. My signature line says "Broke to Millionaire in 6 months" and this is my goal. The reality of the situation though, is this.....
  
  With genuine people who really DO want to help you here, you are already rich! Just like having a million or two in the bank though, if you dont know how to use it wisely, you will soon be broke again.
  
  My dream lives on, and THIS has been my 100th post

  I got hooked on IM 2 years ago and I would love to say I started to create a real business but the real reason was I wanted to get rich quick with very little effort on my part. At the time it was an immature decision but it has turned out to be the best decison I have ever made because I found something that I was passionate about and 2 years later I thought I had it all figured out and somebody changed the game again. This is not a business you can grow complacent in if you want to turn a profit.
  
  The cycle of life is to go from incompetent to compotent, fearful to fearless when we stop challenging ourselves and learning new things depression & other self destructive behaviors start.

  Mike, great way to look at IM. I completely agree, when I first got interested in IM, I thought I would get rich overnight. LOL.
