I am about to edit an ebook that I have only saved in PDF form, apparently. I searched my Trash files, my computer, I can not find the original version that I wrote in non-PDF form.

So is there a way, on a Mac, that I can convert the PDF back to a Word doc so I can edit it?

If the file is not encrypted or have security enabled you should be able to
copy the entire document, copy it and paste it into a .doc file to make your revisions.

Hey Dana! I'm in the exact same predicament right now, having migrated all my files to a new PC and failing to copy the source file of a PDF document I made. I'm giving the free tool below a shot right now.

    convertpdftoword.net

It's been 5 minutes, and it's stuck on the "converting" screen. I don't know if the program encountered an error or if such is the norm. Will give you an update soon.

25 minutes stuck on the "converting" screen, I gave up on the aforementioned online tool.

      I gave Zamzar.com a try

Uploading the PDF file to their server was a breeze. It took them 47 minutes to deliver the converted DOC file to my email address.

Wasn't happy with some errors in formating after the conversion so I tried another service...

      pdfonline.com/pdf2word

Theirs is a real time conversion that will force you to wait for the process to finish. It's not really a big deal. Around 3 minutes for a 2MB file.

The result is fabulous! Not even the minutest formating error can be found. The only negative I observed is that, from a 2MB PDF file, the DOC file ballooned to 5 MB. Other than that, this is an excellent free PDF to DOC conversion tool!

I ended up going to tools, once I was in the PDF, and let me highlight and copy everything. Tedious, and it didn't bring my screenshots with me, but I needed updated ones anyway.

Next time I will not trash my original document once I export it as a PDF! Man. Lesson learned.

If you have Photoshop or Illustrator, you can pull the screenshots out with that, in case there are any that don't need to be updated.

Dan's content is irregularly read by handfuls of people. Join the elite few by reading his blog: dcrBlogs.com, following him on Twitter: dcrTweets.com or reading his fiction: dcrWrites.com but NOT by Clicking Here!

Dan also writes content for hire, but you can't afford him anyway.

Good tip! I don't have either program because I am not an artiste and wouldn't know how to use them.

It's actually disheartening easy to open a PDF- now I see why it was so easy for those ripoff people I'd mentioned in previous threads to copy Twitter Goldrush, upload it and sell it or give it away.

You have 6 steps to edit :
Step1:Begin by going to the Nitro PDF Professional website and downloading the Nitro PDF Professional software. (Follow the link in Resources.) After you've downloaded the program, follow the instructions to install it. Once you've finished, open Nitro PDF.
Step2:Click on the "Open" icon at the top of the program (the folder that is half-open). Search for and open the PDF that you wish to edit.
Step3:Click the "Insert and Edit" tab at the top of the program. Once you've done this, select the "Insert" option found in the "text" box. This option will have a large "Ti" icon above it.

Step4:Scroll down through your PDF and select any text you wish to edit. You can also delete text or add text to any portion of the document. To edit the text, right-click on the portion you wish to edit. In the drop-down box, select "Edit Text." Then simply edit your text as you would in any word-processing program.

Step5:Use the other boxes at the top of the screen to add charts, pictures and other items to your PDF if you choose to do so. For the most part you will probably only want to edit the text of a PDF. However, Nitro PDF does give you the option to make other additions as well.

Step6:Save the document as you would any word-processing document (hit Control + "S" or click the "Save" icon at the top of the program) and you will be finished.
