My 2012: move from just freelancing, to freelancing AND selling my own products.

Personally, I find freelancing great, and I don't plan to quit it anytime soon. However, I also strive for independence, so ultimately I want to move on to a point where most of my money comes from selling my own products. 2012 will be the year I start moving in that direction. Here is my plan:

1. Write a free ebook.

2. Create a squeeze page for that first ebook.

4. Get aweber

5. Promote my opt in page with SEO, and by linking to it on my blog, in my signature file, through social media, etc.

6. Write a larger ebook that I will ultimately charge money for, dealing with a similar topic to what was covered in the free ebook.

7. Hire a web designer to set up a store for selling my ebook (not messing around with clickbank, too many refund scam horror stories).

8. Budget for $2000-$2500 of PPC ads.

9. Write my own sales copy and create my own video for launch.

10. Launch the ebook, market through my list, my blog, and PPC.

That will give you some idea of how my 2010 will look. Of course, I won't do all this overnight because I still freelance full time and will be working on this project part time.

You are doing exactly what I'm planning to do. Freelance writing is going really great, but I want to get in on what people on WF are doing. Seems like it would be way more fun and lucrative.

I wish you the best of luck.

Do you mind sharing what topic your ebook will be on?
(If you aren't sure yet, or you aren't comfortable disclosing that, no worries)

I definitely like the path you're looking down. Would you someday like to eliminate freelancing all together?

the free book will be on writing sales letters. the paid book will be on copywriting as well, but will cover more topics, including squeeze pages, autoresponder sales copy, video scripts, and so on.

As for freelancing, my long term objectives still aren't very specific. I would like to hit a point where I no longer HAVE to freelance to make money, but where I still get enough people coming to me that I could take jobs I'm interested in.

Yes, selling your own info products can take you closer to your goal of complete independence.

One method you might want to try is to pen the full e-book, if your market research confirms demand for it, and give a few chapters of it for free to your list. That way, you are ready to fulfill orders from those in your list that want to buy your book. Whatever route you wish to take, here is wishing you good luck.

Will your budget of $2000-$2500 on PPC ads be monthly, or just as a starting budget? Before you spend that much money on PPC, invest about $20 to see if the niche and keywords converts well into your squeeze page. If you don't go the squeeze page route, see if you can break even or even profit on your $20 investment by sending them directly to your sales page. What niche are you trying to go in? Depending on that, you may not even have to invest $2000-$2500 on PPC.

This is a great idea. Your PPC budget sounds pretty high though - make sure you do extensive research before investing that much money into it. Besides that, this is a great plan. It's good you will still be doing freelancing because starting a business does require some certainty in terms of finances. Best of luck.
