If you do not track every little thing in your marketing endeavors, you are going to be leaving money on the table.

I had gotten lazy in this, and just learned my lesson.

Yesterday a made a $16 comission on clickbank for somethign I didn't even know what it was. Turns out it's from a squidoo page I set up 2 years ago, that has been getting 125 visitors per week for the past 12 months.

If only I had known.

Because it's only ranked #5 in google for its keyword. Time to do some backlinking, do some extra on-page SEO, and put some better products up on the page.

I still have Amazon sales coming in for a lens I built on Squidoo like 3 years ago. The only reason I realized it was because I had setup a custom tracking code for that page. Funny how stuff can sit there for years and you never touch it, then suddenly traffic starts to flow!

While I agree tracking to an extent is important, there is probably more money lost in internet marketing by the person who feels it's all about the numbers than the indecisive.

The number that really gets me is the conversion of 1/13,000. 125 visitors a week x 2 years.

I would leave off the on page and work on the actual copy, get my conversions up, then look into doing some off page to it as if you are ranking number 5 on G then the on page is probably good enough.

    Regarding the bad conversion:

2 years ago is when I started IM... and as a result The product on the page is pretty bad, and not very well targeted, Also not very well promoted on the page.

Also the page has gotten that traffic for one year. Not two

Great story TCrosby! It just proves that content lasts forever. I always make sure that I take the time for tracking everything. So tell us what is your favorite tracking program?

Yes we need to track everything. But since the knowledge and technology (I refer to automated software) this days I find too hard to track it.
