Ugh...Web Host Sending Forbidden Error Code 403

For several days I have been unable to find my webhost site. Due to recent Holidays, not sure how long this has been going on. Each time I go to their site I receive the 403 Code. I have three sites hosted with them, and am paid in full for 1yr. All my sites are up and running, and I can still access the backend through the IP address. They are not returning my emails.

Not sure what to make of this... Have heard stories of other webhosting sites closing down, or disappearing. I got such a good deal with these guys and they assured me that they would be around for a long time. However, this does not look good!!

Fortunately I am also using another service found on the WF. But I thought it would be best to have more than one web hosting account. I am lost for words :confused:

    As long as you've still got access to your control panel, then the first thing you should do is generate a backup of your account (if using cPanel, just click on Backups > Generate full account backup) and save it on your local machine.

    That way, if things do go belly up you can quickly get up and running with another host.

    The 403 error wouldn't worry me as much as the unresponsive emails. Things do break from time to time, so it's possible they aren't aware of the error on their site, but as I said, the fact you can't get a response from them would be of concern.

    At the end of the day you've got to have realistic expectations about what you can get for your money when it comes to hosting. A lot of these "amazing deal" prices you see charged are completely unrealistic and unsustainable. Without naming names, I remember seeing a hosting offer on here with unlimited space and bandwidth, for under $10 per year.

    For that $10 per year, a host has to spend thousands on hardware, pay for floor space in a DC, electricity and bandwidth, plus an hourly wage for the 24/7 tech support staff that you expect to be there, another $50 or so per month on licensing costs, then at the end of it hope there is enough of the $10 left after taxation for them to take home a profit.

    So whilst it's incredibly tempting to go for these too good to be true deals, we do see them come back and bite people on the ass far too often.

    So in short - make a backup of your account just to be on the safe side :-D

        Hi Spyjoe. Proudhosts pricing plans are not much more than what my other webhost charges. How long have you used this company? I see they do offer cPanel, I am not very good on the back end without it. Thanks for the information

    There can be some advantages to that, yes. As well as some minor disadvantages, sometimes. I host in 5 different places, myself.

    Sorry to hear about your difficulties, and hoping they somehow resolve. I agree it doesn't sound good that they're not replying to your emails.

    The important thing for others to learn from these stories is that you should arrange hosting only through very well-established companies with a very long-standing record for reliability, continuity and good customer services.

      Hi Alexa. Til now the customer service was very responsive. Usually within 1 hour or less of sending an email I would get a response. I have used them for the past 6mos and never had one iota of a problem. I too hope that it get resolves. Hoping for the best, but I am prepared...
