Viral marketing campaign for a startup!?

Hi all,

I think from the title you get nearly everything.

Ok, the situation is that I have a startup that I am developing. It is in the alpha stage. So no one can access the product yet - just me - but users can signup to the mailing list which will tell them when the site is ready.
At this point I have 120-130 people signed up to the list. This took me 3 months. (I know that this is pretty crap... there is some truth in it)

Now, I need more signups to ensure that the site will be successful.

This is why I thought of viral marketing. But I am not sure how to do it.

So my question:
What should I do? Should I create a viral video and upload it to YT with a link to my startup in the desc.? Or should I write an eBook and tweet about it to my 700 followers on Twitter and wait till someone recognizes it in the industry and they post it on their blog and they tweet it?
Or something...

So I am looking for the most usable, innovative ideas.

Thanks for your time!

Regards,
Akos

Why not do them all? Think about this: even if just 1 of these techniques makes you grab customers attention, it's a hit. If more then one works for you, the better. As long as you can keep within your budget... it's a GO!

Yt video is quite good idea, but after you place it there you should promote this video, it will takes a lot of time and power, because nothing "flying itself".
I may recomend you to make good SEO work after you start. But your the biggest task will be - creating a community. (You may search my thread here about this)
People will not use a web service if they will be alone at the "party"

Tell me please how did you get 120-130 email subscribers?

      To answer your question:
I got 130 subscribers by getting the site featured at a big tech blog and a small but targeted blog. Also I did some promotion for it on Twitter (attracted 110 followers there already)

Yeah do both. In your Youtube video, display the link back to your website where folks can download your book. Also make sure you have links inside of your free ebook that directs them to your pitch page, or affiliate product pitch page.
