Help with ecosystem choice
I want a website (BenTristem.com) with sections such as Home, About, Speaking, Consulting, Blog, Contact, and Members. Simple, enough, I'm just drowing in options and would appreciate some guidance.
It seems clear that the blog should be on WordPress, self-hosted.
I'm happy to write the basic site in WordPress, however once the OptimizePress theme is applied I have much less control over how it looks, and as a blog WordPress then becomes less intuitive to use.
I'm not sure if the blog should be on the same site as the other pages above, or if it's OK to link-off to the blog. If linking-off, should it be at the same domain (e.g. bentristem.com/blog) for SEO and simplicity?
Also with the Membership site. I have OptimizePress and feel that is a good solution for my budget and level of knowledge (using Nanacast, or DAP for locking). If OptimizePress turns-out to be a pain, I would consider Kajabi, but I feel comfortable using OptimizePress and saving the monthly fee. I'm happy to encode videos myself using HandBrake, they will upload faster that way too.
I'm just airing the options I'm considering, and would appreciate guidance. I had good success in traffic terms with a site called lose fat get strong dot com, but this is a locked-down WordPress install provided as part of an Internet Marketing seminar and it's too slow, inflexible, and expensive to keep using.
I could also code the main site in HTML, using something like KompoZer. That would add flexibility but I would be worried about the extra time spent when I don't really need the extra features beyond what WordPress can do as a CMS.
Yours a little confused, I'd love to talk to somebody who'se got some experience in this area, maybe via Skype?
