Problems Monetising a PC Gaming News Website/Forum

Hey guys!

Basically guy's I'm having some major problems monetising the news blog and forums attached to a pc gaming brand I'm in the process of building.

unitlost[dot]com is the website in question, and the attached forums.

Currently as you can see adsence is installed on both assets, however the ads are completely irrelevant for the most part. Now, I have implemented section targeting on the blog, (the effect seems to be very minimal).

I think I have two options here? I either find some sort of a method to ensure Google will always display ads the target audience, or I move into affiliate marketing?

Which is my next question, what type of ads would actually work out to be better? I have an active CJ account but the type of adverts available are not exactly the best. Often the case is advertisers are not offering current up to date banners and such.

I'm at a bit of a loss here guys. That's why I've come to ask the best

Sounds like you need to become an Affiliate for a related product. Check out CJ and see what they have to offer. The nice thing about being an affiliate is you choose what to display on your blog instead of adsense putting random stuff that is irrelevant.

Search for sites that offer a product that is similar to your niche and then check their site for an affiliate program. Gather as much of these as you can and then go through the process of picking which ones you feel would interest your readers the most.

Being an affiliate can be much more rewarding then just displaying adsense.

I have spent some time going over what CJ has to offer.

I know the gaming niche hardly pulls in noteworthy amount without insane traffic levels. So it does make sense to migrate over to full aff marketing on the website and forum.

The question is, what other affiliate programs are out there beyond what CJ has to offer.

I'm quite new to the whole affiliate marketing scene, especially when it comes to pc gaming websites.

Any help would be awesome guys!

there are lots of gaming offers on the CPA networks that pay ~ $1 per free signup. You can put some teaser adcopy for games at the top and bottom of each article you write. You could also try dating offers since they pay pretty well (about $3-5/lead on average). On CJ, I know they have Gamefly which is a good match fir a gaming site. CJ also has one called Lumosity, which is a game that is supposed to help you "train your brain".

There are tons of opportunities, you just need to experiment and try a bunch of different stuff.

The problem with gamefly is it mainly focuses on console games. With my site being pc gaming focused that would look kinda silly.

      Great tips tho guys

go and have a look at adwords for your key terms and look for who is selling what to who and for how long, then find the source to those products services usually product name affilate offers or some thing like that in the G.

If you are in the MMO niche, you could try applying for EVE Online affiliate program. It's a space MMO. It's a good game and pays well in my opinion.
