Webinars - the new JOB

Webinars...

They must work because all the upper-level gurus are doing them. Surely you have seen it. Up-and-comers in the IM world doing wso's and $97 Clickbank products a few months ago are now doing webinars leading to $997 and more buy-ins.

"Sign up and be here at 5pm est for a once in a life time-never-again offer." Like this is 1935 radio. Like we haven't mastered instant playback 20 different ways to Sunday. As if we don't have the technology to record and play back anything at anytime with a half-a-click.

But no, we must commit to 2:40, 4pm, 7:25... Be there at 5pm est or miss it forever. BLEH.

Wasn't part of our motivation to get into this lifestyle so we didn't have to clock in? Punch in our card... I remember the days I literally had a 3x6 cardboard paper sheet I slid down into a machine that CLINKED to make sure I was on time. So I would not be fired. More than 2 CLINKS within 1 YEAR and I had to start worrying.

So WT% is this illusion about live webinars we are so enamored with. This fake-"live" speech I have to plan my week around to get pitched xyz. Notice there is no question mark here... i.e. it's not a question. It's becoming friggen annoying - HOWEVER It must work right? The gurus keep doing it every chance they get. [It's a numbers game] - [it's all in the list] - [insert cliche here]

Well, if I even see "webinar" in my email box I just delete it on the spot. It's my knee-jerk reaction to being manipulated I guess. Don't make me punch in to your time clock when you can just give me the audio/video file at any moment. I have a family. I have friends. I'm happy to listen and speak with them... LIVE. I don't need to wait to hear you LIVE. It's not exciting to me. And oddly enough, your 997 info doesn't appear to be more valuable than the 9.97 info I see here. But then again it's all relative and we are probably spoiled in the warrior forum.

    I can't blame you!

And that is actually what more and more people do.

OP, I'm still unclear as to how you feel about webinars, I'm afraid.

    :p

I personally dislike webinars for numerous reasons.
I prefer info I can read at my leisure and refer back to when needed.
I hate being tied into time, especially as I am in Australia and most of the times are very inconvenient for me.
I HATE webinar holders who selfishly assume the world revolves around their country and don't consider a more detailed explanation of the time so I can work out what time it is from my point of view.

I hate webinars too, with a passion. I delete any emails with webinar links and refuse to log on to any of them. I am very suspicious of the 'amazing' conversion figures too. The amount of false information in IM regarding earnings and conversion rates is ridiculous anyway so why would this be any different with webinars? Some folks like them but I can't stand them for too many reasons to go into here.

You must subscribe to the wrong type of marketer's list. I'm a member of two sites where the marketers have regular webinars but who very thoughtfully post the replays on their respective membership sites for their members to view at their leisure.

Being based in the UK, most of those webinars are at inconvenient times (for me). Even those that are not, like the OP, I prefer to choose when I view such material, however good it may be as all of them from these two marketers invariably are.

I don't sign up to other marketers' webinars unless they promise a replay. Then I wait for their email alert that provides me with the link to the webinar replay.

Life's too short to waste on getting worked up about something you can control.

I'm not sure why they're so popular from a customer point of view. You get half the information you're promised, a sales pitch and you've lost two hours of your life.

It comes across as product creators massaging their own ego most of the time. In fact, I've lost respect for more than one marketer after listening to their webinars.

The advice to remove yourself from lists, as they're a distracting waste of time, that you see on this forum so often is never more applicable than here.

No one is obligated to attend a webinar, youre actually getting content instead of being sent to a sales page, and there's normally a replay of webinars, so... Everything is going to be ok.

Well I never said there was zero Value in these webinars... I think a lot of them have great content for the first half of them. And some of them even conclude with great offers... I just don't want to be pinned down by a clock. Especially when it's almost insulting that this has to be a live event and not at my leisure.

But I also "suggested" that there is a reason these gurus are doing this. It converts! Why else would they do it? I don't see newbie-WSO-Launchers doing webinars. Not until their 10nth-ish wso at least... So it's "obviously" the way to go, but I just don't like it.

Of course I'm not obligated to show up at the webinar, and yes - everything is going to be ok.. in fact, it already IS ok I'm simply ranting about something that tries to manipulate my time - in competition with a few dozen other things: My family, my clients, my future plans, my continued education...

If they are offering replays then obviously I'm not talking about them... But thanks for playing

People wouldn't be doing them if they weren't making money on them. But I also delete most webinar announcements I get. If it's from a marketer I respect and follow, I'll look to see if there's going to be a recording of it offered later, and maybe I'll listen to it then while doing other things online at the same time (multi-tasking is great to do while listening to a webinar, and I've found I don't need to see all their screen shots....just hear them speaking). Even if there is no announcement of it being recorded, it usually is, and 9 times out of 10 I'll get another email in a day or two announcing the recording is available. If I want to listen to it....and again, I only do this for a very few marketers I really respect....then I'll do so when I have the time.

Otherwise, "webinar announcement" = straight to trash bin in email box.

I believe that there are bad webinars and good webinars. Just like there are good products & bad products, good marketers and bad marketers....

We all have a choice in what type of content we consume and the marketers we listen to. This is part of marketing and obviously it works because so many top marketers are doing it.

I personally I get value from some of these webinars and then there are some that are a waste of time. Chances are we know all know what type of webinar its going to be even before we watch it based on the marketer who puts it on.

We always have a choice and shouldn't get upset with others when we make a bad choice. After all we are all marketers here and there is always something to learn even from the bad experiences.

I personally like many of the webinars I've viewed. I think it's a cool change of pace to hear people more off the cuff. I do agree that they need to be just part of a marketing mix, and I definitely want to be able to replay them at a later time.

I only love webinars when it came from a person that I've met.

If you don't want the information I've got enough to show up on time, spend an hour with me, and put $1k on the table once I've convinced you this is the right thing for your business... this information is not for you.

I was lucky enough, in the early stages of my IM career, to get handed a copy of Frank Kern's Mass Control 2 without having to spend $2k on it.

The product was absolutely worthless to me. I didn't have the experience, the tools, or the infrastructure to do anything with it. And while I keep going back to it to see whether I can apply it yet... the answer continues to be "not really."

And as I ponder what I need and why, I'm betting that when I go back to MC2 and find it useful, I'll also be in a position where I could spend $2k on a product like it.

    Funny how that works out.

And when you really factor it down, a webinar is someone saying "if you will give me an hour of your time, I will give you an hour of mine." That's perfectly fair, and if you want to sit there and bitch that you'd really rather I put that hour on video and upload it somewhere you can get it on YOUR schedule, then you can either pull out your damn wallet or eat my entire arse.
