Anyone Running A News Site/News Blog?

Ive played around with news in the past and recently got myself some curation software.

If you run a news website, could you share some experiences and thoughts?

Good / Bad ?

Niche, sub-niche, micro-niche or general news?

ROI?

Anything you want to share. Cheers. Im playing around with some ideas in my head and i'd like to open a discussion with you all. We know search engines LOVE new, fresh content and recently ive even been paying particular attention to the page rank of news sites v sales or static sites and news sites have noticed almost always have higher or high page ranks even if hey are new. Im assuming this is because of the amount of people that link back or trackback to the news articles.

I did for 2 years almost (it was niche - mixed martial arts).

Main consideration is you need to be around always to post news as it happens, unless you do some sort of post event commentary. The whole news scene is all around getting the 'exclusive'.

If you can dedicate a lot of your time to it, its well worth it, but as a more passive line its pretty demanding and proved to be to much for me to keep up.
