Image Signature Rules. Is this Okay?

Let's say I have an image signature, like the one I just bought.

Is it okay to have an up-front newsletter sign-up form on the page that appears when it's clicked? The kind that fades out the main content of that page, and asks people to sign up?

It has increased my sign up rate in the past with my other newsletter (and no, the purpose of my newsletter is not to spam or sell any products) and I had a better subscription rate ever since.

Not very many people unsubscribe, because I usually show a "TOC", of what to expect from the newsletter. So I only get a very low unsubscribe rate which is common to any newsletter.

Again, I am not selling anything, or trying to trick people into anything. I am a writer, and I just like to write content and distribute it to people who want to read it.

Question:

Would this get my image sig banned?

As far as I can tell that is fine, the only problem with your sig is the smaller text.

You arent allowed to change the font sizes for signatures, but yea the image & page should be ok. As long as you arent redirecting to an affiliate link there shouldnt be any problems..

  • Yes this sounds fine to me. I don't think you are breaking any rules

I heard that there is a limit on the length of a signature,

But why is using smaller font is against the rules? Hmmm.

Especially when the signature editor allows you to do it

In my opinion my signature looks more readable if I make the distinction between less important links (by making them smaller).

As long as it is your own product on your own site, then you are fine.

    All the best,

I'm not quite sure why some people object to that myself, except when it's used to stuff a bunch of links for SEO purposes.

Technically it's against the rules, but the rule about fonts was intended to forbid larger sizes. It seems silly to worry about smaller fonts, unless there's some additional problem not relating to the size of the text.

I tend to interpret the rules according to their original intent. Pushing them literally is, in my opinion, counterproductive. For example, one could easily take a literal interpretation of Rule #1 that would eliminate any form of debate on the topics that most merit discussion by people with strongly differing opinions.

Contrary to what some folks might assume, we try to have as few rules about posting here as possible. Every single rule was formulated to reduce a real problem that was occurring on the board and creating real issues for the members.

Thanks for shedding some light on the small text issue paul. That issue has been debated "behind the scenes" ever since sig rules first appeared here.

Keep in mind that other mods might interpret that rule literally. I gave my way of handling it, but I'm not the only one who handles such things.

By the way... to answer the original question: Nope. No problem with that sig image. And it wouldn't matter if you were selling something or not. If the image links to your site and isn't seriously objectionable in its own right, we mostly don't care what's on the other end of the URL.
