Question For ARP3 Users (or other Hosted Autoreponders)

Hi Warriors,

I have a quick question for those of you that handle your own email lists on your servers instead of using Aweber or one of the other mailing giants.

If you use ARP3 or another type of newsletter management software, do you set your software to email "unlimited" emails or do you set an hourly limit.

I know that shared servers require some type of limit.

Does setting it to "unlimited" (if your host allows it) cause more bounces, less bounces, or not matter at all?

Thanks for any responses!

    Hi, ScottRaven, hi Warriors!

    The hourly limit is depending on how much bandwidth you got from your hosting service;
for example if you get 30 gigs per month, you can send nearly 20000 emails everyday, in text format, 3/10 kb per email, or nearly 14.000 emails everyday in html format.

This normal for virtual dedicated, where you must have your own dedicated ip number address, and this is surely a way to avoid to be black listed because of an account using the same ip number, and who is spamming, and this could happen for a shared
    ip number.

So never set to unlimited, and you can see that arp3 (last version) asks for:

    "Message limit
Restrict mailings to this number of messages"

Therefore you can set Mail sleep interval to zero.

Indeed, the more is the number, the more you can get bounces; arp3 gives the chance to set bounces to 3 time, but if you don't want to receive advices from your hosting service, that can invite you to pay attention to the sent message, or worser they can stop your sendings, remember that the more you send the more you must control and see if it is not the case to set bounces from 3 to a lower number.

    Scott,

You need to check with your host regarding sending limits, most shared hosts (the ones that cost $9 a month) will limit you to 400 emails an hour, so you need to make sure your autoresponder can limit/throttle the emails sent.

If you use a VPS then normally most providers do not put a limit on sending, same goes with a dedicated server. There are some good VPS deals out there.

As far as I know ARP can throttle emails, Autoresponder365 certainly can throttle emails and I would recommend you set the delay to 9 seconds between emails, keeping the sending around 400 per hour if using a cheap shared host.

If using a self hosted responder like autoresponder365 or ARP then make sure you do not get spam complaints by following these rules:

Do not import a list you did not build yourself.
Make sure your opt out link is always shown.
Provide real value to your list.
    Try to use double opt-in.
Provide real value to your list ;-)

    Hope this helps?

you will crash almost any server if you use an unlimited sending setting.

essentially, the server will try to send out the whole list instantly. If that list is even a few thousand, you will be needing a fully dedicated server... and not a cheap one at that.

In my experience there is no affect on the deliverability of the emails sent when it comes to the delay time between emails.

The delay is simply to save your server from crashing. There is no reason not to set a delay, but it does not at all have to be long at all, just barely enough to make it not "instant"

Agree, certainly if the list is large and on a shared host, that's why they restrict sending on the cheap hosts. VPS/Dedicated is the way to go if you are running 10k plus lists.
