Need blogging expertise...

Well, I've resisted it for three years but now I think it's time to start a blog. Like everything I do, it will be quality, but I also have to admit that my main motivation is to support my primary website in terms of both traffic and SEO.

Could any of you experienced bloggers advise me:

1. Which blog network is best?

From everything I've seen and heard so far I would choose Wordpress but I want opinions from others. Google supposedly loves Wordpress and it will give good SEO juice. But Google has their own blog network too? Don't they love that even more???

2. Whichever blog form I choose, let's just say Wordpress for now, what is the best resource I can get for how to create a successful blog? I don't need something that's going to drown me in detail... just a good beginners' guide. Any current or previous WSO's or ebooks on the web?

Thanks for any tips!

The best route is to blog on a self hosted WordPress that runs on your hosting account, not at wordpress.com.

You can find free video training on WordPress at http://www.warriorforum.com/warrior-...ank-sales.html

My 2c worth. Blogger (Google's own blog network) is quick, easy and free. However WP is more versatile.

I "caught" the blogging bug just recently. I started with Blogger but am transferring to WP (self-hosted). More choice of templates and more control.

Google seem to like both - both are indexed quickly and seem to rank high in results.

If you want to encourage your visitors to be interactive and comment, I find that far more comments are left on WP than Blogger - I guess it is more obvious how to comment on WP than Blogger. Akismet (WP plugin) is your friend for killing spam.

With WP you could install on a sub-directory or sub-folder of your main site. It's a simple click and install via Fantastico. Savvy visitors will see it as part of your main site.

My advise is try both and see which option suits you.

Sorry to sound like I'm copying everyone else here, but I have a blog that I use as my central hub as it were! I have a self hosted word press blog and with allthe plugings that are are available including SEO plugings is the most flexible option for you!

You can use a self-hosted blog.

Lets say you own yourdomain.com. Install wordpress.org in your own domain using Fantastico in your cpanel. It is very easy to install.

Alternatively, you can use blogger.com which I feel is good enough to start if you want to test out if blogging is right for you.

Starting a blog is easy, Maintaining and driving traffic to it will need your commitment and consistent effort and time.

    2. Whichever blog form I choose, let's just say Wordpress for now, what is the best resource I can get for how to create a successful blog? I don't need something that's going to drown me in detail... just a good beginners' guide. Any current or previous WSO's or ebooks on the web?
This forum is good for you to start.

Search for "blogging" in the search feature above.

This can give you an idea how to start setting it up.

Remember move one step at a time and learn
enough just for you to move on to your next step.

In this way, you won't be overwhelmed with too
    much info.

    Cheers,
    John
