Website Requirements?

Hello all,

As a newbie just getting ready to create my first website through Wordpress and venture into the world of affiliate/adsense marketing, I would like to ask you experienced warriors a few questions. They are:

1) What information has to ALWAYS be included in the website?
- Copyright, Terms of service, Privacy Policy, Sitemap, etc

2) What exact reasons will Google ban your website for? Is there anything I need to know about META tags, Robots, Content, etc that is important to keep in mind when designing my website?

I do not want to create a website and then find out I made a crucial mistake which will affect me from getting ranked high or is a legal no-no.

Thanks everyone and Best of luck in 2012!!!

It's always best to check the AdSense Terms of Service since Google likes to update policies frequently.

Okay the naked truth, I do not know the truthful answers.
What I do know is this. I make a website pretty plain. I use very little graphics. I do use some though for alt tags.
I always include contact. legal, tos privacy and sitemap.
Google can ban you for anything it wants too. Just remember this. Build a site you are proud of, don't spam people. Don't do blackhat and honestly work the site and you should be okay.

And this comes from someone that is a pro at getting banned on google.

P.S. I stopped using meta tags about three years ago. I tested them and do not think they help me much. I think the search engines go off the content of the site more than meta tags. I also do not use robots. A sitemap and a do follow and do not follow work for me better.

That's correct. Here are a few suggestions that will prevent you from getting in trouble with AdSense:

      1) Google AdSense TOC require you to have a privacy policy. Specifically they want you to say that the site uses DoubleDart Cookies. (which is something their ads use, and they can get in trouble if you don't mention that.

Here is an example of a Privacy Policy Google would like to see. Of course, add your own rules, and change name to your own site.

Make sure you have that before you apply for AdSense.

What exact reasons will Google ban your website for?

      1) The most important reason is invalid clicks. Don't click on your own ads, ever.
      2) According to Google it is your responsibility to rid your site from invalid clicks
      3) But what are invalid clicks?
      4) There are about 5 categories of what an invalid click could be.
      5) A lot of people, believe it or not, still double-click on AdSense ads (older people from old computer age!)
      6) You would be surprised how often that happens - just install statcounter.com and see for yourself
(it shows you outbound clicks, including ones on adsense ads, and the time they occurred, so you'll see something like click#1 03:15:07 click#2 03:15:08 on the same ad!)
      7) Google knows about this, so, not all invalid clicks are fraudulent - this is an important distinction!

What to do if you are banned? (Google will never tell you why they banned you, if they do)

Well, first of all, and this is super important... It is your responsibility to watch out for invalid clicks. If you see your AdSense Earnings do weird things... invalid clicks MAY be the reason. So you have to investigate it yourself from that point on.

You must report invalid click activity (use statcounter.com) soon as you notice it. BEFORE you are banned. They keep everything on record, and when/if they ban your account, they will be able to see that you tried to solve this problem before you got banned. This increases the chances of you being reinstated later.

They understand that many people are not trying to cheat the system, so they created a page, which allows you to enter details of invalid activity you are observing on your site. Here is the page to report it:

Google's Official Invalid Click Activity Form

Use it every time you think your site is being click-bombed by the jealous party Report their IP address, the page this activity is taking place on... with statcounter.com you can even identify their Internet Provider and complain to them.

      Other than that...

      1) Keep your website layout clean and information organized.

      2) Do not post any advertising on your site before applying for AdSense program.

      3) Make sure you have 5-10 really good pages before you apply

      4) Try to get your site included in Google index before you apply.

      Hope this helps...

      Good luck!

There's a good amount of stuff to know when setting up your first site. If I were you, I would just check out a program like Unstoppable Affiliate. I will give you a few tips, though. The main goal of a search engine is to provide the most relevant and up-to-date information based on what the end user is searching for. Unique, quality content counts for a lot.

When you're doing affiliate marketing, you shouldn't put adsense on the same page that you're promoting a product on. It takes visitors away from you're site. Sure, you might make .30 a click, but you could be missing out on a $30 sale! Statistically speaking, it takes just as many clicks to get an adsense click as it does an affiliate sales, so using adsense makes no sense. Get it?

    Good luck,
    Joey

Take a look around the web in different niches....see what catches your eye. That will give you a good ideas about what a site should look like.

Definitely work on your content, and SEO, and backlinks. Content is getting more important with each new algorithm change. Also, take a look a your site load speed.

Something new...watch how many ads you have on your website. And I would put them below the fold.

Yes...include privacy and other policies on your site...Google seems to like that.

I still use meta tags...guess it's just a habit now. But, some search engines still look at them.

    Definitely include a site map.
