    hmm..you don't have a list.
Either mailing list, facebook fan page, or Twitter. OR use all three

They say your list is the most Important asset in Internet MArketing.

The website could look a little more professional. I gotta admit it's hard to read anything with the green background. Also, how much traffic are you getting? I almost couldn't even tell it was monetized. Are you targeting keywords?

surely you can add adsense to monetize it... build facebook fan page, build followers in twitter, then offer advertising spots in there. will be a great way to monetize it that way

From what I see, you don't have all that many indexed backlinks. Getting more backlinks will help your search engine position, which will get you more traffic.

However, even if you get a lot of traffic, you are in a niche that has a notoriously low click through rate (CTR) for AdSense. Life quotes can be a lucrative niche, but not so much with AdSense.

When I went to your website, I saw ads for AdSense itself, so the ads are not relevant to your audience. I think this is because you need to do some major on-page SEO. Looking at the content, there is almost no way for AdSense to know it is about life quotes. Just add a few lines like, "here are the best life quotes" or "here are some of my favorite life quotes."

Instead of AdSense, you should go with something like ClickBank, or make your own inspirational book to sell alongside the website. This should help you make some money.

what have been doing for the entire year to drive traffic and make money from your blog?

Seeing your blog it is clear why you are not making money.

    1. It is not looking professional.

    2. I don't know whether it has unique content or not.

    3. Start building your list and if you have traffic drive all your traffic to your squeeze page.

    4. Follow up with your list and then sell your products in your emails.

    5. Know what niche you are working in. Select a sub niche that has demand and then write unique content in your blog that gives value to your readers. If they will get value from your free content they will think of purchasing your paid and recommended products.

    6. Build relationship with your list. Ask them their problems and give them valuable answers, then promote your products.

    7. Drive targeted traffic to your website and use content as the foundation to drive all the traffic to your website. If you do this you will get buyers to your site who will sign up to your list and purchase your products...

I'm not sure how much traffic your site gets every day, but if we are talking about conversions, then you gotta work at least a little bit at it.

Honestly, my first impressions, when I visit your site is that I'm not seeing anything else than the quotes and nobody is trying to offer me any products or services.

It means that, if you want to monetize it, you would be much better off if you added at least an opt-in box on the right side. Add some sponsored ads if you can find something worthwhile.

But the design is not the best imho. It's hard to read red text on a green background. I know for the person who has created the website it may look alright, but I'm telling you find a better wordpress template. There's plenty of them to choose from.

      Cheers,
      Ray

    Have you tried doing this:

    1) Make the background white.
    2) Build a few back links yourself
    3) Create a Twitter and Facebook accounts for the site (Lol, what is this?) A Twitter account for your quote site, that doesn't tweet the quotes? Hmm! How odd.
    4) Think about it... quotes are great for distributing over Twitter, and you are waiting for Search Engine traffic... when people could be re-twitting your quotes left and right. When I post funny things on my Twitter account, they get spread quick.
    5) Your personal Twitter account is not your Business Twitter account. That's an important distinction.
    6) Also, the site http://jimmynasic.com/ is down as of Jan 12,2012 40:07AM PST -- the URL in your Twitter profile -- it should be pointing to the quote site.
    7) Bring traffic to your site and force-sign up them to your news feed.
    8) By that, I mean use an upfront sign up form... Create a mailchimp or aweber account (they let you have a following of up to 500 people for free)
    9) Keep distributing your site everywhere (It's called marketing )
    10) Don't spend a single day not doing anything for your site.
    11) You said you were "running" it for one year, but were you working on it every day? The more effort you put into your site (I don't care if it's a quote site, a review site or a blog...) the faster you will succeed.
    12) Learn list building.
    13) Don't wait for something to happen -- make it happen.

I tend to agree with most of the threads here - up the design of the site and up the traffic building efforts and SEO. It's a numbers game with visitors - you need 1,000's per month. I have 40,000 views per month to my Blog and make a couple of hundred $'s from affiliate links and adsense - so you can see how much you need to up your game.

Good luck for your future success - keep at it, in time you will get there :-)

I's agree with a lot of the advice from the previous posters. Definitely get rid of the green background and make the site more reader friendly - white is a great color for this.

Have to add a Sign-Up form to help you build a list of leads to sell products to or promote affiliate products. Have you considered compiling some of your quotes into an ebook? Either as a free gift on sign-up to the mailing list or sell for something cheap like $7?

Just from Google Keyword tool I see your keyword " the best life quotes" has 1,600 exact global searches - there is a good possibility of monetizing some of this traffic but you gotta work on some SEO Optimization to make sure you rank highly for this keyword.

Currently you are bottom of the second page in Google for this keyword - attack your SEO and you could start ruling Google for this Keyword!

The design itself is not so bad but I agree with the others on this thread that the background is not too great. What I think you should do:

    Long Term
    1. Build a list - you could start a newsletter too
    2. Get a click-bank product to promote (there are several under the personal development niche)
    3. Write guest posts, submit to article directories and post on forums e.t.c

    Short Term
    - register on paid blogging networks like blogsvertise, payu2blog, etc
You won't get much but if you get accepted, it is something decent.

    Good luck.

Do you feel good about the look of your website? You run the website on wordpress, so it should not be a problem to find a nice clear theme for your website. This is the first step. Make it look better. It's hard to read the text. Then I don't see any social icons expect the flying twitter.

You want to get more from the website? Try harder! There was pretty much everything said what you should do and the list should keep you busy for some time.

I checked your signature and you use an elegant theme on that site, so why not to use one of the elegant themes for the website you are asking about? You have to catch your visitors and me personally, I would hit the back button right away.

After you improve the design, learn more about marketing. Like Koolsteve said. Learn about conversions and what the numbers you should expect are. And please, do more work than you have done for the last year. Hope it helps

I think you can make it profitable. So many people love quotes and once you monetize and start socializing with other people about your website, you will bring in more traffic.

I must admit, I am in the trying to make money phase too, but we will get there.

My feeling is that when I arrived on the page it took a while to even figure out what the site was for... Life quotes could have meant quotations for life insurance etc. I would make the home page much simpler - cleaner but bolder.

Tell everyone who lands immediately with a bold headline/sub-headline what they will get from sticking around on the site..

Why not try to add a little widget that will generate someone with a random quote, or with a personalised quote based on someone's variable input - birthday month, age etc.

You could offer an RSS feed or a code snippet that will give the 'quote of the day' for anyone who wants to have it. You can then build up links to other people's sites who have embedded your snippet.

Looks as though you are only monetizing for a few Adsense ads, so it is going to take you a long while to make more than a few cents. Like others have said, build a list by giving something away free (Example, a booklet containing the 100 best business quotes?)

I am not sure what products you could sell to a list... self help products?

    Looks like a generated site.
These are fine if they just quitely build themselves and earn a few $ more than the hosting costs, but if you are actually spending any time on this, give up.

List building suggestions are well meaning, but unlikely to work. Sure thats a valid general point, but you arnt going to build a list from this site - "join our news letter to get even more badly copied quotes in your inbox"

Its not even targeted or offering anything that might get interaction.
Quotesaboutcats . com would stand a chance, at least you know your audience.
If it allowed voting, user uploading etc, it MIGHT stand a chance, but i wouldnt count on it.

Far better to spend your time picking a niche, and building a site around that.

You may try to install plugins that will monitor your visitors, like stat press...from there you will know and assess how to make money with your site. As I've seen, the site was not monetized to make money.

Let us pretend you were searching for "life quotes". What would you be looking to buy exactly? Well, I personally can't think of to much. Maybe a book on life quotes?

If you want to make money on the site you need to have something to sell on there.

So you may want to find a list of topics related to Life Quotes...perhaps Self Help. Then pick a Self Help product, write a solid article and drive traffic to it.

I have just had a look at your website, and have to agree with the general consensus that the site does look unprofessional.

Having said that, I wonder what message you are trying to portray as in my opinion it also looks confused with all the ads on the side that seem to have very little to do with life quotes, or indeed positive messages.

My advice would be to get an autresponder, and from there start building a list, maybe by giving away a small ebook with some life quotes in it. From there, put things like some self help books on there, and add maybe an inspirational quote of the day, along with some images of famous people who have said these quotes.

Also, build a Facebook Fan Page, and monetise it some more with Adsense ads that are relevant to what you are trying get across. By doing this, you should find it easier to earn some money from your site.

    Hope this helps.

If your website is about life quotes, you can simply add some Adsense or any ad network to it by placing the banner. Otherwise, you need to search for some affiliate programs that are related to what your niche is. I think the best way for you to make real money with your "life quotes" website is by creating an eBook about it and sell to customers.

Lots of good tips. I agree...I think you need to add a sign-up form.
Why don't you pitch the 'Quote of the Day' - receive your inspirational Quote of the Day in your inbox! - have a signup form and start building your list. In the sign-up form allow them to choose their category e.g. Business/management/famous as per your site. Use Aweber for example to load up the quotes and have them delivered to the lists as per category choices. Once you start building your list, you can then promote products.
And as suggested by others..facebook and twitter would work with the 'Quote of the Day' theme.

I'm assuming you only want to make money from Adsense? The website isn't coherent. Maybe you should start with a re-design of your website. There's no opt-in box for subscribers. There are alot of things that you can change to make it profitable.

Those quotes are cool. But what can a visitor do with them? You have to entice a visitor to do something with those quotes. The adsense blocks that you have in there do not attract anyone to click on them.

But as mentioned before you need to start building a list from your visitor log. Having your website up for a year seems to promote page rank but what do you offer your visitors once they get there?

Take the suggestions already given within this thread and implement them. Don't hesitate, just go ahead and modify it and see what happens.

some of my students have the same problem.

It comes down to many things, but most of the time, it is 2 things.

    Your copy stinks.

and your traffic sucks, or is not targeted enough.

Your copywriting, if that is not up to speed, hire someone even someone in here in the WF to help you. Without persuavie copy no one will stay on your site and subscriber or buy.

You traffic, well I could talk about this for days.

You need traffic that is targeted. Meaning....if you put your dog training ad on a cat lovers forum, you will not get any sales. Now if you put your dog training ad in a dog lovers directory, solo ad section, on the top of a dog forums, in a magazine for dog trainers or lovers...well then you are getting somewhere FAST.

The more traffic the better. ONe of our sites gets 10,000 unique hits a day, But that comes from months and months of hard works. But it converts like crazy.

Just keep a record of what works and what doesnt. Then keep doing that. But remember work on your copywriting and targeted traffic first. that will help you win this race.

    Now.....get to work.

I see you have a lot af replies and I appologize if someone said this but I don't see a call to action...your not asking your visitors to do anything. Having a website up one would assume that you are attempting to sell something...solve your "targeted" visitors problem but I don't see that you are honing in on what it is you want people to do when they get there. So a person clicks on your site, all I see are some great quotes. Period. There are ads there but they are even targeted. Above the fold on the right side, I see an add for what foods to eat which doesn't solve a visitor's problem assuming that they came there for a quote to lift them up. Try offering amazon books. Get in your visitor's heads. What questions or problems do they have and solve them in a way of offering a product. Get an opt-in above the fold and be sure to do research on how to do email marketing to keep them going back to your website for more. HTH

I visualize, and what I see to your sites has to be inviting to others like: background color, creative placement of your ads, organization of theme may help (maybe a change in WP theme), blogging invites people to interact, and ask for quote suggestions from people who stop by (have a box for email suggestions - ask if they wish to get email about your newest quote.)

I have been thinking about creating a similar site. You should connect a fb page to it ,,,, a twitter account will also help. I think that both will help in getting traffic to a site like that.

Best regards. I also think that those categories, that are region related. Should be placed in the right sidebar for it will make the site a bit more easier to navigate.

    Best Regards.

There are a lot of good ideas on this thread. A redesign would certainly help. Maybe you could also incorporate a contest? Something like - tell us who this quote is by and win a prize (an ebook of quotes or a small gift certificate). That would let you build a list that then you could market products to.
