What should I do with my 'fail' project

So, I kind of screwed up. I built a whole website, based on a board match keyword in the keyword tool. It was not until later I learned that the default was useless and you needed to highlight 'exact' match.

Still, screw it, I brushed myself down and got back up. Its all about learning right?

Well anyhow in the process I ended with a site that I am not sure what to do with. So I thought I would see what my fellow warriors think:

Its an Amazon affiliate site as you can see, perhaps with Valentines coming up I could push it out there somehow?

One point - I don't really want to spend to much. Its current only been a $10 investment (not including my time) $5 on a logo (thanks fiverr) and $5 on 700 facebook likes (thanks fiverr) - lame, I know!

actually, why not promote it? It will be valentine day's in 1 month and there might be a market for this

Coolio, thanks Awesomo - what promotion option do I have? What do reckon?

This can be a warrior forum project - how to resurrect a keyword fail?

There are plenty of Promotion options including:

        Natural search - seo/backlinks
Paid traffic - ppc, cpm, ppv, media buys, classified ads
Social media - Facebook, FB fan pages, Twitter

You could even look at off-line promotion as well.

Is there any free introductory offers I could get in on?

Luke, yup as what Neil suggested. You can also try social bookmarking...

Creating websites based on an exact match domain is just one strategy that can help your site get ranked more easily for that one main keyword/phrase, so it's certainly not the end of the road for your site.

Just research some better keywords and create optimised content to help you get ranked for many more terms, then just promote your site, build links etc to build up your traffic.

Exactly, you're only looking at the domain. You can still rank other pages for different keywords. Do more keyword research using your new "exact" knowledge and create some new pages on that same site targeting those keywords.

        I see:

So if for example 'valentines gifts' has a big trend around the start of Feb - then put up some good content around .com/valentines-gifts and then anchor text 'valentines gifts' to the content?

Blast out it to social media, articles sites, web 2.0 sites?

Individual pages on your site can still rank highly now that you now where you went wrong. The age of the site helps with the page rank so at least that is going for you with a site that isn't brand new.
I have several 'fail' sites but the right way to look at it is to call them 'learn' sites instead.

I didn't think using high-traffic, broad match terms in a domain is necessarily bad, is it? If I'm building a site for the long term -- wouldn't I be better off to use broad match keywords in the name (if they are available) and then target long-tail terms for the content and inbound links?

Neil's right. Putting content on your site will help get it ranked, just make sure it's keyword rich and focused.

Tonight I will start doing some serious keyword research.

It's really a nice looking site. Valentine's day is coming up. Promote it. So it doesn't get as many searches per month as you would like. Promote on social networks and get some social bookmarks.

You could also get a new domain ... gifts something or other and have a "gifts for your boyfriend section, gifts for your girlfriend section, gifts for your husband/wife, etc. Or just gifts for him and her. Actually ... I like that. Gifts for him or her and use the content you already have for him.

Luke your site has hardly ANY backlinks at all, that is one problem You can optimize your site for the very closely related keyword [gift ideas for boyfriend] which is 9K exact local match

But your site is dead in the water without backlinks, it has potential though.

I plan to start on that tonight, just back from work sorting out the kids and stuff, my time is a little later.

I will do some research on other keywords and then come up with an SEO plan. I have scrapebox so I could try and get some related backlinks that way.

Other then that I will use socialmonkee for social booking marketing and perhaps put some spun content on the article sites and do a blast of backlinks against them?

      Any other suggestions?

Scrapebox and SB's are a good start, why haven't you used them yet??? Also you can do some link exchanges and buy some High PR backlink lists for manual commenting, I buy mine from Faceblogger on here, also check out www.bcsme.com for thorough backlinking advice, one of my favorite sites to reference.
