Adsense ads don't make any sense

I have noticed that on one or two of my sites the adsense ads that get displayed don't seem to have much relevance to the main content of the site. Google says that they will analyze your site and display the most relevant ads possible but it doesn't seem to hold true in these cases. When I analyze these sites for keyword relevance everything seems in order.
Is there a way to influence google as to what should go there? Seems like their algorithm needs a little work.

I don't remember the exact term for it, but Google does have the ability to show ads that are relevant not to your page, but the webpage your visitor just came from.

Keyon is correct. The ads will be relevant to your recent searches. Or, of course, your visitors recent pages that he searched.

You could try getting in touch with google to ask what the problem is. I asked some of my workers to check out my sites because they live in another country and tell me if the ads were relevant to the content in there country. May be one or two of the ads were but generally it was just the same. I think it depends on the niche you are in, an associate of mine has several different blogs all with adsense on. One is in the soccer/sports niche and he very rarely gets ads that are targeted with his content but one of his other blogs is in the travel niche and his ads are alot more targeted thus getting more clicks. When i choose my niches i will try to do as much as research as possible to try and find the best niche to go for but who really knows how googles thingy works

The adverts you see may differ to other people visiting your blog because Google offers both ads based on site content, and ads based on a users search history

I find that I frequently get ads that are relevant to the sites that I have visited prior to the one that I am currently on. Clearly Google are showing ads that are relevant to me and not based solely on the site that I am currently visiting.
