Locking the Sale then Effortlessly Upselling

Hey Guys,

I'm wondering if anyone has recommendations on how to accomplish an upsell process I'd like to see. I've seen this done before...

Step 1: Sales page and click 'purchase'
Step 2: Enter details (name + e-mail + credit card info) + Click Confirm
Step 3: The sale is now confirmed, but there is an upsell page.
Yes to upsell: go to upsell 2.
No to upsell: go to down sell 1
Step 4A: Upsell 2: Yes/No goes to confirmation page.
Step 4B: Yes/no to downsell goes to confirmation page.

As of Step 3, when they choose to purchase the upsell, they DO NOT have to enter their details again - they simply choose the upsell and it charges them without having to input extra details.

Here's the twist: We don't have a credit card merchant. So we'd need to use Paypal. Is there a way to accomplish this all with Paypal?

NOTE: I understand there is the function to pay through paypal, then return to an upsell page and pay again ... however this gets to a point of far to many extra steps. It really needs to be step by step as mentioned above.

Final Need: We'd need to choose a shopping cart, which we haven't done either. Not sure the best method - 1ShoppingCart of Infusionsoft.

Thank you!

By the way guys - I was just looking at Paypal and realized their Website Payments Standard might work when integrated into a shopping cart for collecting credit card details. I'm not sure how this would all work out with what I want to accomplish from my last post though ...

    Are you using Wordpress?

Why not use a paypal integrated shopping cart plugin, don't actually SHOW the shopping cart but when the visitor completes the first step the item goes into the shopping cart.

You can then show as many other upsell pages as you like, each one would be added to your invisible shopping cart.

Then at the end, they purchase or review all products.

    Simple

      Hey Dadamson,

      We're using Squarespace.

Your suggestion would be a final alternative, but what we'd like to accomplish is that the payment is completed after the first sale is presented ... Immediately after that sale is made, they are able to select the 'one-click-upsells' - The data they entered for payment of the first product would go directly to those upsells so they don't have to do anything else.

The benefit here is that the customer doesn't have the opportunity to go "Oh this is to much!" or "Well I was going to purchase but the upsells have turned me off..."

      Any other ideas?

Pretty sure we accomplished this with Infusionsoft a year or so back. Also, asking for their email address and name on first screen before anything (i.e. step 1) then going to step 2 locks in enough info to follow up later if the cart is abandoned at any point.

          Hey Skyline,

I'm wondering if there is a solution though without all the bells and whistles. Infusionsoft I've heard is great, but also a bit much when running a business with just some straight forward sales processes and that's it.

Update: Nanacast has been offered as a solution by its CEO Josh Anderson. I would be interested in others perspectives and reviews on this and comparison to alternatives.

    Hi Sean,

Yes Infusiosoft is pretty full on, having said that when we used it we only used parts of it which I found pretty useful.

Are you using Paypal Payments pro?

      Hey Skyline,

I was only using the Website Payments Standard. I've been talking with Josh Anderson from Nanacast and that might be a solution in conjunction with Paypal Payments Pro and a Merchant account. Have you ever done any work with Nanacast?

Only thing is I don't know if they work with Squarespace which we're using.

There is a very simple solution for you... it's called Clickbank One Click Upsell.

    Clickbank: One-Click Upsell

      Hi Will,

Thanks for the suggestion. Just noticed the upsell has a cap at $500 with Clickbank. Our upsells are greater than that.

Thank you though for the offer of help!

    Hi Sean,

We nearly used Nanacast before we implemented Infusionsoft but not having got the full experience I can't really say. Back then I'm pretty sure you couldn't do a seamless 1-click upsell via Paypal. We wanted to take payment for the original product, bank it so it's a deal and then offer an upsell with one click and no more form filling. Pretty much what you are trying to achieve I think.

Best to check with your contact there that it's possible to do it seamlessly as above using Paypal, if not might be worth hooking up a different processor.

There are plenty of shopping carts with this type of feature, for example 1SC Upsell Express (One Click Upsell Marketing - Upsell Express - 1ShoppingCart.com). If you want to do high priced products then it might be worth considering getting your own merchant account and using one of the third party shopping cart systems available.

    Hola,

You can do all of that with a WSO and having a few pages on your own external wordpress site to link to. I just built something that was pretty similar to that and after I knew what needed to be linked to what it was smooth sailing.
