Important Message RE: Warrior KimW

To all of you who have supported fundraisers for KimW, who is a victim of kidney failure:

After years battling for life, Kim has his new kidney and is now in recovery.

A special thanks to all who answered the call for funding over the last years that he dealt with this disease, and when things looked the bleakest for him. Your help and community spirit has made the difference this time. You are awesome - each one of you.

He's now faced with paying the bill for his new lease on life - so if you haven't purchased his WSO or donated, or if you have and can afford just a little more -- this is the time. Just a little more and we can put this bad dog to bed!

His WSO is in my signature - It's a monster. You can donate directly: Kidney Transplant Medical Expenses by Kim Winfrey - GoFundMe

Congratulations Kim - this is the best news on this forum in a long time.

EDIT: WF member, fluffythewondercat, has made a "match" offer for donators on post 11. Let's help Kim get out of the hole on the medical bills. He's going to be buying a lot of meds from here on in and doesn't need surgery etc on his hands, too.

      I'm delighted to hear it.

I don't know Kim, myself (my loss - I know), but have (like a huge number of people here, of course) been following his distressing and dramatic story over the last couple of years, and wishing him well.

Thanks very much for the update, Sal.

Yes once an organ is available, they can't waste time - and didn't. Not sure if it was a live donor or what - but I'm sure we'll get the story when he is recovered enough to tell us more about it.

Generous offer, Fluff. I'm sure it will help Kim greatly - this wasn't a cheap procedure. Many of the donations that Kim's gotten went straight to the Kidney foundation instead of to him. While it was commendable that he solicited funding for that organization - and the funds help kidney disease victims everyday - Kim's the one who's stuck with the medical expenses for his surgery, not to mention the recovery and probably a healthy chunk of the drugs he will need to take to prevent rejection.

I just posted this in the Off Topic thread that has been going over a year, but I wanted to share the update here to.
Pat,and the too many to name,

    Its 6:30 PM EST january 17th 2012.
Less than an hour ago I walked into my house. The house I left 6 days ago when I got the call telling me there was a kidney available if I wanted it. I listened and when they finished the details, I said how soon do I have to be there? I was willing to take any option.Anyway, you know I'll tell more later, right now for the update.

The kidney is in the "process" of "waking up" and starting to work.
One from a live donor usually works immediately. When it comes from a cadaver it may start immediately or as in my case, take some time. I've been told from a month to several months to fully function.

So,it has started the first process of helping my body do what it needs, but not enough to stop my need for dialysis. That will be decided on a week by week basis of the transplant center.

My life will seem to be run by them for the most of this year, I got released today but have to be back for a meeting tomorrow, and given a list of meetings for several months ahead.

Anyway more to come later, I truly thank all those that have helped and contributed in so many ways and will continue to update and share with all my friends.
    Bless you all.
