Mission statement writing, anyone with expertise in this field?

Is it good to have both a short mission statement (in just 1-3 sentences),

and a longer version of mission statement (more explantation of what I or we think, believe, our values, goals, principles, objects etc. etc.)?

I think it is a great idea - you should throw in some targeted keywords into it. If you do, it won't harm you at all.

If you want a good mission statement, I'd recommend you check out the Warriors for Hire section.

Post a thread in the Warriors for hire section, you may be able to find someone who can get the job done cheaply for you, or maybe someone that can give you the tips or relavent information you require.

    Thanks,

    It depends.

If this is for you, to focus your efforts, the mission statement is the outcome of a process of discovery about who you are and what you are about. You don't want to outsource this, you want to do this important work yourself and get the clarity you deserve. A coach or a vision setting / strategic planning course can be really helpful.

If this is for your customers, then it depends on what kind of business you are in, what kind of brand you want to project, and a host of other factors. Probably a short statement of why you do the work you do is sufficient.

In short it depends on what exactly you want to achieve with your mission statement. Having one is a great idea, but the specifics depend.

A short clear mission statement is a good way to give people something they can remember easily that represents your business philosophy. One or two sentences is appropriate - it should be more of a company slogan type statement.

A longer statement, you may refer to as "about us". The about us can drift a little bit from your main goal (although you do want to include it). Tell about who dreamed up the business and why, and how you put it all together - sometimes, an about us page also includes a paragraph about each of the key people in the business.

I think you should just write whatever flows naturally. It doesn't really matter if it's long or short in my opinion. Just write what your goals are in a way that's natural for you.
