Amazon Affiliate sites is best to make them Global site or Country specific sites

I was wondering about this question.

Some sites I could build have only a few hundred searches a month in my country the UK.

While globally they have tens of thousands.

The terms have not got much competition and would be easy to get on the first page of Google for.

Does it matter if my amazon sites are not country specific seeing the cookies from my site or Amazons would be in their computer and I would get paid even if they brought off a non-uk version of Amazon?

Amazon in various different countries operates as separate companies, at least for affiliate payment purposes.

You get paid a commission only if you're an affiliate of that company and the buyer clicks on a link which takes him to that company's site.

There's software you can get which recognises visitors' locations from their IP numbers and will direct them to the listing for the specific product(s) on the "right Amazon's" site (for you to be paid), but you have to register separately as an affiliate of each, since for this purpose they're separate companies.

At Amazon UK there's such a low ceiling on the commission payable on any individual item that (if not doing what's suggested above) you might possibly think it's better (even if you live in the UK) to be an affiliate of US Amazon, and to target specifically US traffic.

I personally use a link localizer plugin for Amazon... I haven't seen any conversions on other sites... I target the American market, but get a good few hits from Canada.

For some reason, the Canadians don't buy anything... not really sure why... hang on, let me just check... nope, nada... only 210 clicks this month so far on Amazon.ca, no conversions.

It is not that we Canadians don't buy anything, its Amazon.ca that doesn't offer anything, Amazon.ca is the worst Amazon I have ever seen so basically I order from Amazon.com

I have heard this before... do you get free shipping, being from Canada?

Can't be any worse than Amazon China... can it?

I would go for country specific because if you are an amazon uk affiliate.
And some one from a different country gets to your site and tries to buy amazon on a lot of there products mite not send to that specific country.
Plus to get your commission you will have to become an affiliate to all
9 amazon sites wp localizer or link localizer are great for that.

        All The Best

Would it be better to get a .com domain name or a country specific domain name such as .co.uk for a amazon affiliate site or any affilite site?

Generally you can't go wrong with a .com. There's little if any downside, for this purpose, I think.

UK visitors don't mind ".com" rather than ".co.uk" on websites - we're all used to it, now. The converse may be slightly less true (Americans using a .co.uk or other national extension site), I think.

If unsure, it's nearly always best to use a .com for something like this, if you can.

I agree... .com is the way to go. As an American, I can't honestly say I've ever typed ".co.uk" in the address bar, and it's very very rare to see these in the search results. And of course, our fat asses are going to be buying everything you want to sell!
