Wordpress vs. Blogger

Hey guys I'm starting up my blog and I'd like to know if anyone has any information on which would be better and what ads work on each because I feel blogger may be very limiting. Anyhow any and all help would be appreciated.

That's probably putting it very mildly.

You will want to consider a self hosted Wordpress website if you want to own any of the the work that you put into it.

    Self-Hosted=Ownership
    Free Blogs = Non-Ownership

Maybe its just me but I would rather pay 10 bucks a month for hosting and own my website

    Good luck!

I would add that you can use self hosted wordpress for the best results.

I like WordPress because it has a lot of plug-in options as well as you having more control over the information since you have to host it.

This is very obvious. Please, if you are making your site with a commercial intent, use only your own sites in order to protect them. Blogger does not have that, so self hosted wordpress blogs are better in this aspect. Even so, wordpress is 10times better with all the themes and plugins available.

You need to think about your longer term plans for your site...

If you're just tinkering and getting a feel for blogging then either Blogger or hosted WordPress (WordPress.com) would be fine. They both have restrictions which are explained in the terms and conditions for each service (WordPress.com does not allow your own ads, for example), and you should familiarise yourself with those because if you infringe them your site will be closed down.

If, however, your site is going to be the basis for a new business, then you should go with self-hosted WordPress, for all the reasons the others have said above.

If you're not sure you're in this for the long-haul, you could start on Blogger or WordPress.com and, if you discover that Blogging is going to be your thing, you could migrate your site to self-hosted WordPress

This article I've linked to below is old, but the points it makes are still largely relevant - it may be helpful:

I personally love WordPress! One of the best things I have ever had. Also as said above gives you ownership, so after a year so later Blogger or some third party Blog provide may not take your work down and say we don't like you anymore.

f you know what I am saying..

      There really is no competition.

      Wordpress is right up there.

I ditched all my blogger sites and redirected to newly established WP sites.

If you are too lazy to learn about managing Wordpress Sites and have ownership about everything on your blog, than blogger would be better for you. It's a good idea to start from blogger. First check if blogging IS FOR YOU. If yes, then you can always transfer your blog from blogger to Wordpress

Thanks for all the information guys. I plan for this to be a long term commitment for I actually have fun blogging and want to learn marketing in general. I'm not a college student, I don't have extensive writing skills, and I'm young, but to be honest I believe this could be for me, reason being I enjoy tough challeges and moreover enjoy learning about topics that particular interest me.

You've all given me a lot to think about and I appreciate it.

I have long abandoned blogger.com after it deleted my non spam blogs as spammy. I then moved to some other hosting- from free to paid with my self hosted blog. and atlast I am using hostgator and my blogs are running superb.

There is nothing more you want if you have a self hosted wordpress blog. I run 7 blogs and with domain and hosting that might cost around $200 per year, well it's not a huge amount if you want to run your own business.

i never looked back after started using WordPress. If anyone here is looking for custom blogs then I might help.
