Trying something new - building my own dating site, anybody done this?

So I've been doing IM for a few years now, and I do pretty good - 6 figures per year - but it's mostly with SEO stuff, various niche based email lists and CPA offers.

I was having a random discussion with my Fiance the other day while in Vegas at affiliate summit, and a phrase came up to which she said "that'd be a good dating site name!"

It was good, too good actually - and to my happiness the .com WAS available and I snatched it up that evening.

So, as for the next step - I've found a few sites that build your site FOR you and even let you purchase/use 1000+ of their OWN active members on your network. You can control everything, trial time- how many members you let in free at first, monthly cost etc. It sounds like a good solution to me.

My QUESTION is: How many of you have built your OWN dating sites from scratch, or using a service like this - and how much success have you had with them either as paid membership sites, or free sites monetized by other means.

My domain name is rather niche oriented, and I think I can do quite well with it.

Thanks in advance

easy flirt is supposed to be a good whitelabel platform, they have tons of niche offers to and you can create any angle with them

      Hi Jeff,

Many years ago, in 2003, a couple of buddies and myself were going to do just this. I was going to be the programmer (of course) and they were going to assist with funding and promotion of the site.

Ultimately, we never did the project, but I've always had the feeling that a dating site, done correctly, could be a huge profit generator.

What I found when I did research in the niche is that most sites are tailored towards women (I mean, what guy is going to join a dating site with no women, right?).

However, the court is tilted too far in their favor, and most all of them are full of spam, use payment processing systems that are not (in my opinion) the best option - there were a couple that I even tried to pay for a premium membership too just to see how they operated more in depth for a paid user, that I was unable to even complete payment processing because their system was so error prone.

In my opinion the most important facets of a dating site are discretion of user privacy, actually bringing people together, and making the site useful to both sexes instead of the women having a never ending torrent of inbox messages, and the guys having to fight tooth and nail (their message is basically "a brick in the wall" if you take my meaning).

Also, these sites are full of spam, and people selling adult webcam services, etc., and that *has* to be weeded out. Also, to get around paying for a subscription, most of these spammers / cam girls will write their instant messenger screen name and or email out in their profile in a way that circumnavigates the built in moderation functions, example:

      s e e m e o n c a m n o w [at] y a h o o ...or...send me a message on A O L I M, my name is seemeoncamnow

There has to be active moderation which equals paying someone to do it, that isn't going to let things like that slide, or simply take all user input out of the equation for free members, aka, they cannot enter text on their profile.

It has to be done right, and if done right, could overthrow every other major dating site out there right now.

Just my 2 cents. PM me if you like.
