Why You Will Never Finish A Product..

yo,

The LITTLE things that cause BIG
problems are the KILLERS of businesses
in IM. The biggest example of this is the
"perfection" peeps.. People who strive for
perfection in everything, and in the end,
have nothing... Because it wasn't "100%
perfect".

A friend of mine texted me tonight at 1 in
the morning, he was stuck at about 500
words on some assignment he was working
on... (I finished the same assignment in about
45 minutes).

I asked him a simple question, "how much do
you care about everything", and his basic answer
was a lot..

You see the reason that his assignment WASN'T
done, was because he cared too much about the
little things that wouldn't help him.

Thinking about this e-mail takes me back to
creating products.. You can easily get stuck on
things like

-- The stupid highlighting of words that Microsoft
Word does.. (grammar/spelling). You gotta make
sure its perfect.

-- Fonts... Do your customers really need you to
spend 5 hours creating the perfect font structure.
THEY JUST WANT THE PRODUCT.

-- The other little things. People focus way too
much on what stock graphic they'll use on every
page.

The point I'm trying to make here is this, if you haven't
finished a product, and it's because you get sidetracked
or something else...

quite simple DON't. Decide what you're going to do, decide
that its gotta be done, and decide that your not going to
pay attention to the little things (and even go as far
as to disablethat underline thing).

anyone can make a product, maybe not in this niche, but in
some niche.... I've watched so many people FAIL because they
didn't finish the final step, which is why I highly recommend
sitting down and finishing a product in one sitting...

hope someone gets something out of this... my eyes are
shutting.

Caleb

I understnd, and that is why I mispell alot. People complain but I get more done by writing quick emails than to find my mistakes, I do make a little less because I have tracked it. But it doesnt amount to enough to cry over.

Words misspelled here were on purpose, The rest of my posts, just laziness lol.

You can always go back later and fix
things, instead of NOW. Now it is just
a distraction.. later, you have time to
go back and do those things.

Awesome Caleb. I read it in some book too.

I mean I developed over 30 products last year,
some people think that I don't even sleep...lol

But the real secret is that I don't care how my
first draft looks. I don't care if it sounds right, I
just write what I think I should write in the first
    draft.

Then I go through it again and make some additions
subtract a few paras/sentences and stuff.

The final check is where I correct errors using MS
word and then make it look BLING BLING!

That is the secret right there.

When we try to get the thing perfect in the first go
especially when developing digital products we lose
"the flow" that we are in...

    Caleb,

that's a great post and I'm also a believer that perfection is not even close as important as taking action and getting things done, even if they are not perfect. Being a perfectionist can ruin you, seriously!

That's why I set deadlines for myself and my work. I schedule everything in advance and when I decide I'm launching a site by the following, I'm just launching it whether or not it's completed and "perfect".

I apply that to my articles and PLR as well... I can pump out a 500 word article in 15 minutes but it won't be the prettiest article. From there I take some time and proofread it, make sure it flows well, make edits here and there, and in the end it takes me about a quarter of the time it took when I would edit as I wrote.

    Hola,

Right on! Love the message behind this one. Too much thinking and not enough action taking is what tends to hold people back when it comes to completing things that they know they need to. For some reason we put BUSY WORK instead of the actual WORK WORK that needs to be done and we waste all our time planning instead of executing. Bummer.
